games that players can play within the game

I know the title doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but i couldn't think of another way to phrase it. My players are going to be facing a Nilbog , trying to get it to leave a town alone. I wanted to have the Nilbog agree to leave, if the players could beat it in a few games, but I'm having trouble coming up with ones that would work within DnD (we're playing a text based campaign). I don't just want it to be a "roll the dice to win" game either, i wanted it to involve the players abilities and skillsets too, if that makes sense. So far the ideas i have are - Snail Race (players have to search around for snails, and then have them race. No holds barred, so the players are allowed to use spells and such to buff their snails) - Riddles (pretty straight forward) - Hide and Seek (none of our players are full rogues, so it might be interesting to see how it would go) i had a few other ideas but I don't really like my chances of them working out in a fun way does anyone have any suggestions or ideas for fun silly "minigames" my players could play against this Nilbog? (also, sorry if this is the wrong part of the forum to put this in, I've never used the community forums before!)
