Wow lag!!!

So in the last month or so, I have been experiencing a very serious amount of lag in our campaign. I'm not the DM, he is a Pro user but it takes up to 30 seconds for character sheets and other pages to load. I saw some other previous posts related to my issue from 1 year or older and I did not see any real resolutions? Lots of things to try, but I didn't see any of the issues actually resolved. Before you blame my browser, I have tried on the newest versions of each: Chrome, FireFox, Edge. I am experiencing the same issue on each. Cleared cache. I have a 300mb internet connection so I 100% know this is not on my end. I have re-installed each browser with no add-ons or extensions enabled. I have even tried my VPN and I see the same delay. 20-30 loads on every page I click on. Ok I thought I would be proactive and cover my bases by taking this further: -this occurs on 3 different computers using a fast internet connection, using the 3 mentioned browsers on each -even on my phone using an LTE cell network I am seeing this same lag This is breaking the experience for me and I would like a reasonable solution. I would like someone at roll20 to investigate this on their end.  I suspect the size of the campaign might be the issue as I don't see others having these very real issues I am having. Is too much stuff getting loaded before it's needed? I have seen mentions of archiving and that is the only thing we haven't tried so I will report back on that - but this is mostly text and images?? I'm honestly not going to hold my breath. We have all the fancy graphical stuff disabled. I will be happy to assist in any way that I can to improve this experience for me and likely others. Thanks!

Hi Sean, Your best bet is to go through the troubleshooting steps I'll post below (you've done most of them) and send the console log from step 4 to Roll20 in a  Help Center Request . Posts to the forum are generally not monitored by the devs except in curated feedback threads. Just a couple of things: Internet connection speed is rarely the issue, save possibly in video chat. Size of the game, complexity of maps and number of items on character sheets can definitely cause lag. Do you and your group experience similar lag on a smaller (test) game? Could you please carefully work through these steps of our guide to  Solving Technical Issues ? Step 1: Make sure to use the right browser Please check if these issues persist when using both Chrome  and  Firefox. Step 2: Ensure that there are no extensions/addons interfering with Roll20 Please disable  all  add-ons/extensions. Step 3: Clear your cache If none of the above succeeds, please thoroughly work through  Step 4 .  (Don't forget the complete Console Log!) Thank you!
Hi, yesterday, we played after a break, last month it worked for all my Players and now everybody (including me) have extremly bad resolution from my maps. The Tokens have very good quality like last time. After very much reloads of the side some player have the high resolution maps shown, but wehen i switch them to the next page the same problem..  Today I tried to upload a new map, and after the Upload screen i became a very bad picture... I even tried to make a new campain with only one small image and the Problem is the same..

Hm. I just uploaded some nearly 10 MB maps yesterday without noticeable display issues.What is the size and format? (jpeg/png, etc). A map should probably be a jpg, and definitely not a png with transparency, for example. You've tried disabling the VPN for testing? Have you tried on a private browsing page, to eliminate any (or at least most) unexpected interference from plugs or extensions? Are you running any userscripts (ex. from Tampermonkey or Greasemonkey)? Last ditch (and I know this sounds stupid, but running out of simple options) have you restarted both browser and computer recently? Perhaps you have a memory management issue?

After you finished an upload you can verify the result by downloading the asset in another browser (or browser tab). To do this, drop the image on the canvas, select it and press Z. This opens the most detailed version of the asset. If it looks ok, the upload was correct.  After a page switch, Roll20 will initiate the load of the image with the right detail (which depends on screen size and zoomlevel). During that load, Roll20 shows the best version it has avaliable in the browser at that moment - which might be a thumbnail with very low resolution. Which explains what Sven describes. I just checked and roll20 still converts all jpgs to png's before uploading (a fix for this is really taking too long!), which means that the largest uploaded image can be anything of 3-5 times as large as the original jpg. Via the right menu button context menu you can download the image or copy the url. Download the image and check the size; if this is very large, it might take a long time to download on older computers, or laptops with poor wifi. If it is very large, it can cause memory problems on older/low-end computers.

Hey guys, thanks for the reply. I'm not quite having the same issue as Sven - our images do take a while to load but they do eventually load full resolution. For me, it's when I click on a character sheet or some other asset that brings up the pop-up. Sometimes they won't load and I will have to refresh the entire page, or it will take up to 30 seconds to show up. Unfortunately I can reproduce this same problem on a much smaller campaign that we don't use anymore - so now I don't know what to think. I am somewhat web savvy so I decided to see what's going on using Chrome's Developer Tools - I am seeing some errors on the page? This came up while loading: (index):424 Refused to load the script '<a href="https://js-agent.newrelic.com/nr-1167.min.js" rel="nofollow">https://js-agent.newrelic.com/nr-1167.min.js</a>' because it violates the following Content Security Policy directive: "script-src 'self' 'unsafe-eval' 'sha256-dm6tOb8rwEmENe5+ec26sQvlH6Xd1CBZ7IvtZ4kJK1og=' 'sha256-jlxVUPsj/qdPM120UwbjpC4Tw7dq+obb7SYUV+lSfrIK=' 'nonce-WPsDxysYEJwLLPH7' <a href="http://cdn.inspectlet.com" rel="nofollow">http://cdn.inspectlet.com</a> https://*.googlesyndication.com https://*.doubleclick.net <a href="https://partner.googleadservices.com" rel="nofollow">https://partner.googleadservices.com</a> <a href="https://www.googletagservices.com" rel="nofollow">https://www.googletagservices.com</a> <a href="https://ssl.google-analytics.com" rel="nofollow">https://ssl.google-analytics.com</a> <a href="https://www.google-analytics.com" rel="nofollow">https://www.google-analytics.com</a> <a href="https://ajax.googleapis.com" rel="nofollow">https://ajax.googleapis.com</a> <a href="http://ajax.googleapis.com" rel="nofollow">http://ajax.googleapis.com</a> <a href="https://d3clqjduf2gvxgk.cloudfront.net" rel="nofollow">https://d3clqjduf2gvxgk.cloudfront.net</a> <a href="https://cdn.firebase.com" rel="nofollow">https://cdn.firebase.com</a> https://*.firebaseio.com https://*.tokbox.com https://*.opentok.com <a href="http://static.opentok.com" rel="nofollow">http://static.opentok.com</a> <a href="http://www.google-analytics.com" rel="nofollow">http://www.google-analytics.com</a> <a href="http://cdn.crowdin.com" rel="nofollow">http://cdn.crowdin.com</a> <a href="https://crowdin.com" rel="nofollow">https://crowdin.com</a> <a href="http://stun.l.google.com" rel="nofollow">http://stun.l.google.com</a> *.sentry-cdn.com". Note that 'script-src-elem' was not explicitly set, so 'script-src' is used as a fallback. This error showed up after: "Timeout ref showed error" - app.js, line 552. Thanks for the help - I'm going to see what I can also get from submitting a request.&nbsp;
