FYI. I figured out what was going on. The DMG is just full of bad items now. I had some characters with items pre-DMG purchase that weren't all screwed up. Here is the item's MOD line from the new bad Scimitar + 1: "Item Type: Weapon, Damage: 1d6, Damage Type: slashing, Melee Attack +1, Melee Damage +1" Here is the old working Scimitar + 1: "Item Type: Weapon, Damage: 1d6, Damage Type: slashing, Melee Attack s +1, Melee Damage +1" Note the missing "s" on "Melee Attack". That causes it to drop the attack bonus. No clue why this makes the item flip out when you edit the attack directly though. As mentioned, this isn't the only thing broken. The giant belts for example, the Belt of Hill Giant Strength: Bad: "Item Type: Wondrous item, Strength 21" Good: "Item Type: Adventuring Gear, Strength : 21" Note here the missing colon after Strength. The bad items will just add 21 to your strength score. Another example, Gloves of Thievery: Bad: "Item Type: Wondrous item, Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) +5" Good (I manually fixed this in the item MOD since they didn't exist before): "Item Type: Wondrous item, Sleight of Hand (Dex) +5" Note the skill name. The item has provided by the DMG actually adds 5 to your dex score. Since we have no way to actually edit the compendium, it would be nice if these issues were fixed considering we had to pay money for the DMG. Basically can't trust any item that comes out of it at the moment.
