Trying to get started, but there's this thing

New to R20, I've been trying to get involved with a group to get familiar with the interface. The problem is, every time I respond to a listing that looks like a good fit, that listing DISAPPEARS the next time I try to check for a response. You'd think there would be a search function or something like it to look for threads that you have posted to, but I haven't found anything like that yet.
Maybe it helps if you go to the "Games" Pulldown Menu, then pick "Join a Game" and look for something that suits you there. There you will find Gamemasters who look for players, and you will see if they welcome new players. Usually there are opportunities to get in touch with the GM there directly.
Found those, and that's where I'm posting... in response to GMs looking for players. Didn't know about the "get in touch with the GM" thing though. I'll look for that next time.
I have the exact same problem. Joined a game about an hour ago, now it's gone. Can't find it to save my life. NO idea what the problem might be.
Just keep applying but also maybe look at at 'how' you are applying. Read the entire post Apply how they would like you to (follow the instructions on how to apply) Use proper grammar As a DM who looks over applications: I look for applicants that can follow instructions and give good answers. Possibly even more than asked. I also look for subtle things that you might not think about such as... using 'bold' to create hierarchy (to separate questions and answers) or the use of capital letters. I don't know why it bothers me so much - but if you respond in all lowercase letters - I will definitely skip your application. Another thing I ask for is the 'type' of game you like to play. In some cases I go for the applicants that are closer to the type of game I want to play (for example.. 70% RP and 30% combat).

@Dennis - LOL I wrote for NYT's online site ABOUT.COM for 5 years. I do have my own personal conventions (like typing "prolly" for probably or "minit" for minute... habits I picked up on the old IRC channels), but it would be difficult to mistake the fact that I know my language fairly well. It's good advice, and these are all things to which I've attended. @Will - appreciate the invite, I need to get versed with the online system so I need to play in something with which I'm already quite familiar. For me that's Pathfinder. Do keep me in mind though down the road, because I'm not afraid of branching out - just not all directions simultaneously.
