Single Character with multiple instances?

On several occasions, I have accidentally created (what I call) a false duplicate of a character. It looks like a duplicate and can be moved to a different folder. However, deleting the false duplicate also deletes the original. It looks like it is a single character in two separate folders. I have no idea how I did this, nor can I determine from reading forums. For various reasons (too long to get into), I want to do this on purpose now. Can anyone tell me how?
Open the character you want to copy, click the Edit button, and then click the Duplicate button. This will create a character named "Copy of &lt;CharacterName&gt;". The copy might be at the bottom of your Journal list. They are now separate characters; edits to one are not reflected on the other. The "linked copies" you experienced before is a bug that has been reported from time to time. The best way to get that corrected is to put in a Help Center Request (<a href="https://roll20.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new" rel="nofollow">https://roll20.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new</a>) for Roll20 to fix it. Give the game name (a link to the game is better) and the name of the duplicated character(s).

In this case, I am trying to AVOID doing that as it's taking a lot of memory and slowing Roll20 down. I thought the bug was a feature, and I wanted to use that instead.
Can you elaborate more what you are trying to accomplish with this? Do you want multiple tokens of the character on the tabletop? You can have multiple tokens linked to one character sheet.
One possible use of this bug is a way to organize characters in multiple ways, but still only reference a single character.&nbsp; For example, if you are running the entire D&amp;D Essentials Kit, you'll get monsters of various CR levels from each of the 4 modules.&nbsp; So if you wanted to be able to sort your monsters alphabetically, by CR level, and also by which module you got them from, the bug that allowed linked duplication would let you create a folder that has monsters listed alphabetically, another folder listing by CR level, and another folder that separates them by module.&nbsp; Unfortunately it is indeed a bug, and not a feature, so there's always a chance that even if you can figure out how to do it on purpose, that some future software version will eliminate it as a possibility. If this is what you are trying to do, then I'd suggest picking a single method as your primary sort, and a second as your secondary sort.&nbsp; Personally I use CR as my only sorting method for generic NPCs, and I have a separate folder for named NPCs.&nbsp; Anything else I can simply use the search feature to find a specific monster quickly.
If you do want to create cross-reference entries in your Journal structure, you can create a handout that links to the character. To make this work best, the handouts should be named slightly differently so the links will work. For example, if the character's name is "Rabulias", the handouts might be named "Rabulias (cross-reference)" or "Rabulias (link)".

You can have multiple tokens linked to one character sheet. I am running Torganized Play (Torg Eternity) and building multiple scenarios. Typically, I build each scenario with all the creatures in a folder. When I am ready to run the scenario, I copy the campaign and delete the scenarios that are not being played. This saves me time on building, but the game is beginning to see delays. If I can save space by only having 1 copy of a PC/NPC (instead of multiple copies spread throughout the different scenarios), I think the campaign would load faster. I can try the handouts for links; I just have to figure out how to build those. And the handouts would be unique to the scenario.&nbsp;
