Support for personal media file in jukebox

I understand that there are significant legal implications around supporting the use of personal audio files. However, when I have purchased music legally, it's disappointing that I can't use it with this excellent service. In addition, I'm interested in the new officially-licensed Pathfinder Soundpacks by Syrinscape. Those media files are not something I can upload to SoundCloud. There must be a way to allow users to add personal media to the jukebox while avoiding any Imperial Entanglements. I would think that the way the jukebox works makes using it as a mechanism for media distribution tool rather impractical. Surely, there's a clause you can add to your usage agreement to protect Roll20 from any liability for users having uploaded unlicensed content. Thanks for your consideration. http://paizo.com/paizo/blog/v5748dyo5lg8g?With-a-Blade-in-Your-Hand-and-a-Song-in-Your
Certainly better than "A blade in your heart and a song in your hand", but the way it is done now is to avoid the Devs having to be half lawyers, half programmers. Passing the liabilities to Soundcloud means they can concentrate on the really important stuff.
I read the previous posts in the the forum on this topic, and I understand the rationale. As a backer and customer, I'm sharing my dissatisfaction, and asking if (a) I'm the only user who has [licensed] content that I'd like to use in the jukebox, and if there are others out there who would liek this capability, (b) is it something that the developers would reconsider.
It is a legal problem in the US. If they broadcast copyrighted material on the internet, they either have to get the permission of the artist, or pay a royalty fee to every single copyright holder whose material they broadcast. Just like radio stations have to pay those fees for every song they play. If they were in a country like North Korea, no copyright laws, no problem, except that wanting to play role playing games would get you locked into a mental ward. The only way to change this is to run for Congress and repeal the copyright laws. Then the artists who spend years learning their craft and hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce their work do not get paid for it. By using Sound Cloud, they pass the legal responsibility to Sound Cloud, for a fee. Then Sound Cloud has to police it. Owning a CD is not the same as owning a Copyright for the material. You can't make copies and sell it, you can't broadcast it, you can't even learn the song and play it for money, legally.

If you do have a song you want to play for your group, probably the best you can hope for is to play it and let it flow across your streaming audio connection.
Al e., I work at a University, and understand quite a bit about intellectual property and licensing. However, I hadn't considered the subtle distinction between the simple storage of licensed materials and the broadcasting of that material, which perhaps does invoke a different set of legal strictures. Still, there is precedent. Numerous services provide the ability to stream your music collection to a variety of connected devices. I'm not saying that there aren't issues to be thoughtfully considered. I am asking if it's something that the developers would consider discussing. Would such a capability be a marketable premium feature? I'd find that much more compelling than dynamic lighting.
Thank you for bringing this up, Geoff. I'm incredibly new here (only found out about this awesome tool an hour or two ago!) and I'm very disappointed to find that I can't use personal sound files on the jukebox feature. I'll have to research Sound Cloud more before I can weigh in on this discussion with anything terribly meaningful but I wanted to thank you for bringing up the concern.

How about a partnership with Syrinscape as an additional licensed media source?

General D. said: I'm very disappointed to find that I can't use personal sound files on the jukebox feature. If it's really *personal* sound files - music that you've *made yourself* - you can sign up for Soundcloud and upload it there. There is also plenty of copyright free music from other sources of the internet, that you can upload to Soundcloud. I'm not an expert of these laws, but it's also probably fine to upload recordings of things like people playing a cover of copyrighted music on their piano. At least Soundcloud seems to think so. The only issue I have with Soundcloud, is all the rap music: "So you want creepy horror music, huh? Well, I'm Bass MAsta MC Horror, bringing you da beatdown. Horror. (Say WHAT?) I say horror. (Say WHAT?) D-N-to-the-mother-f-ing-D, man. That's where it's at. They see me rollin'..."

I want to find some good dramatic suspense music, it goes: Here is 50 song search results, 48 of them is some " oomph, tish, oomph, tish, oomph, tish, (now air raid siren) " techno song, or rap song that happens to have the word Im searching for in the lyrics or name. Or trying to find sound effects beyond the handful of common ones on there..I'm looking for good background sounds of gunfights or mech/heavy machinery sounds..it gives me 4000 remixes of the terminator theme done on a 1990's casio keyboard. If they ever added freesound.org support Id personally mail all the devs gift baskets...LOL Edit: maybe Riley? (pleeeease :) ) I just noticed this when going to the page: New Freesound API!
