Breaking into the barrier with the aid of a stolen holy mark, the party bluffs their way into the basement to meet with Jarin Darkdraft. There, they are led further in by myconids, subterranean mushroom people. One of the myconids secretly writes to the group that Jarin has captured their children and is holding them hostage. Neeral and Oscar rush ahead to face Jarin himself, while J.J. and Elro break through a stone wall to free the myconid sprouts. Neeral and Oscar would be a match for the bard headmaster, were it not for his squad of myconids. Fortunately, once the children are freed, the mushroom people all turn on Jarin, eventually pummeling him to death. With Elro's guidance, the group dispels the magical barrier over the college, and by the time they return upstairs, the bards have risen up with their restored magic to overthrow the cultists. Some of the instructors have asked the party to return in one week, so the college may reward them for revealing the cultists after they have a chance to sort out who is temporarily in charge. Oscar, meanwhile, has decided he needs to seal away Rev'os'ayk, the relic spear of Ayk the river god. Anha the Violet's powers are not up to that particular task, but possibly she knows someone who can help. Hopefully it happens before Oscar is slain by the imprisoned god's powers.
