10PM Paladin’s monitoring the police bands looking for
policemen in trouble finally pays off. An officer calls out in a panic that he
needs assistance. A pair of officers were being waylaid by four police officers
who were transformed into vampires!
The superheroes quickly dispatch the vampires. A single
vampire escapes telling Paladin that the ‘state of grace’ that Gratz bestowed
upon him was not longer in effect.
Constable goes into the diner where the police were ambushed
and bought a mop. The then breaks the mop handle into stakes and finishes off
the vampires.
Kismet used her healing powers to save one of the two police
who were attacked. The other officer was protected by Constable and was
unharmed.

2:00 AM
Lt. House and Stan Brown of Part interview the group at the
Part offices. They want to know everything that they can tell them about the
vampire policemen. Constable wants to experiment with the Vampires to see had
resistant to damage they are. The Part officers are concerned about desecrating
the bodies of NY policemen and what the families of the officers would think
about the experiments Constable is proposing.
One of the Brigade suggests that instead of trying to find
better ways of destroying the vampires research into curing them might be in
order. (I don’t recall who it was but I think it was either Iktomi or Kismet.)
Officer Brown says that according to legend there was a man
cured of vampirism in the 1500s who was restored to full life by cutting the
heart out of his ‘sire’ and dissolving it in sacramental wine and drinking it.
The group decides to research this in addition to other
possible cures. They are going to talk to Marvel Girl’s librarian friend Marilis
Kettler, the half-vampire (a Dhampir) to see what she knows about a cure.
Constable and Kismet start combing through data trying to
locate a patter as to where the officers who were turned vanished from, what
departments they were assigned to, who they served under to see if any patters
developed. Constable also scrutinizes their bank records to see if they have
any unexplained deposits before they vanished and any place they spent money
after they vanished. The thought was if they spent money after they were turned
the location of those expenses would be close to the vampire nest. Find the
nest and you should find the vampire that turned the policemen.
3:00 AM
Paladin responds to the fight between the Warriors and the
Nubians just a few blocks from the Brigade’s Citadel. The gang task force
leader Detective Sergeant Willard Herbert Joyner gives Paladin some attitude,
he does not like super heroes or other types of vigilantes, but admits that the
help would be a good thing.
Constable, who is on radio duty, also responds to the gang
fight call. Iktome and Kismet also make themselves available.
While Joyner and Paladin are exchanging pleasantries a
uniformed officer interrupts. He says that 5 blocks away, at the old Khole’s
department store, there was a report of a group of Warriors ‘partying’ with
some black girls in the basement. Joyner sends four uniforms to check it out
and tells them to take the ‘super hero’ with them.
At the Khole building Constable sees twenty Warriors
repeatedly raping eight girls who were members of the Nubian gang. The heroes,
the four officers, and a new metahuman they had not met yet rushed in and
rescued the Nubians.
The new meta identifies herself as Lady Paper and wants to
join the Brooklyn Brigade. Paladin gets L.P.’s number and gives it to Pearl
Ivy.
Later that morning Pearl
calls Lady Paper and asks her some basic questions and offers her a place on
the Brigade. L.P. accepts. They set a time of 2PM for her to come by the
Citadel the sign the papers and get a tour of the facility.
A lawyer will be there for the contract signing and a
photographer for the PR piece.
2PM
The signing goes off with a hitch and the very excited L.P.
gets to see the secret basement part of the base. She is also excited to learn
that vampires are real!
While Kismet is showing her the coke board that she is using
to analyze the movement of the vampire policemen both prior to their conversion
and the scant information of their movements afterward a glowing portal appears
in the common area of the base. A naked woman in her late teens, early
twenties, steps through.
Lady Paper gave her a paper cape to wear. When she asked for
something more…substantial Lady Paper took it back. Kismet tried to give her
something to wear but Elizabeth,
being 5 foot 8, 122 pounds, was much larger than 4 foot 11, 97 pounds. Paladin
gave her a sweat suit from his wardrobe.
The woman claims that her name is Elizabeth Ann Hunter from
the year 2038. She says she is here to warn the team, and maybe the world,
about the return of Adolf Hitler. She says that he and Eva Braun escaped
through time when Berlin
fell in April of 1945 using a machine called Die Glocke. They came futureward.
She tells them that the next world war against Hitler starts
on January 1, 2021 when the Artic nation of New Swabia, that sprung from the
Nazi artic base 211, announced to the world that they were there. The United
Nations sent a war fleet that made Operation High-Jump look like a church
social to deal with them.
Between the Nazi Supers (like Captain Nazi, Captain Axis,
Master Man, Warrior Woman, and many, many more), a large number of WWII era
warships, and a bunch of flying saucers the UN Forces were completely
destroyed.
After that a space-based laser weapon fired from the moon
destroying the country of Latveria and killing Doctor Doom. With the threat
from space, the Nazi supers, and the armed forces of New Swabia the war to
conquer the Earth only took a few years.
Elizabeth
grew up in the ruins after the war.
She explains that her time machine only transports living
material. She also explains the effects of going to a time where you already
exist. She tells them that her parents traveled to 1945 to prevent Hitler from
escaping Berlin,
since they never came back she assumes they failed. She does not have much time
to help in the quest to keep the 4 th Reich from conquering the
world. She will be conceived in a few days, maybe two weeks, and she does not
want to merge with her past self. Past selves are always the default being.
Her team will be reopening the portal at the same time every
day (2:30PM) so she can come home and avoid being effectively erased.
Elizabeth
takes them to the Time Master’s headquarters so the Brigade can use the Time
Machine there to travel back in time to prevent Hitler from escaping. It took a
little convincing for Jeff Smith to open the door and talk to them. The
warehouse floor is littered with a assortment of junk, Jacobs ladders, tin foil
shapes, banks of arrays of incandescent light bulbs, old 45 RPM record players,
metal weathervanes, and more. Getting close to the machine causes the hairs on
everyone’s bodies to stand up. The charge from the machine also causes a
heightened state of arousal in everyone near the machine. [GM: Note, sorry I forgot that aspect of the
machine until I reviewed my notes in post-game.]
The group ask for the machine to be shut off so they can analyze
it to see if the ‘only the naked can travel’ aspect could be fixed. Jeff and
Antonia refuse! Rip, Dan, and Bonnie are in the past. If they shut off the
machine they will not know where to find the portal to come home. Each time it
is activate the date is set with precision but the geographical point can vary
0 to 500 miles!
Elizabeth
tells Antonia that she (Antonia) fixes that problem a few years from now. Elizabeth is not a time
machine technician and does not know specifically how the repair was done but
she knows the story about the process as told to her by her parents (Rip and
Bonnie). Maybe from the story Antonia can get a clue as to what was done so she
can do it now.
Their concern is that Antonia learns a lot about the machine
while she works to correct some of its operational problems (the variation in
exit point, going naked, the large power requirement to keep the portal open,
etc.) and she will not gain that experience if Elizabeth gives her the shortcut
to the exit variance.
Elizabeth
tells them that the machine was built from the plans in a book that her mother
(Bonnie Baxter) inherited. No one seems to understand how this pile of junk
parts creates the miracle of time travel nor does anyone know who wrote the
book in the first place. It was at least 100 years old by the time Bonnie
gained possession of it.
The Brigade wants to see the book but they don’t have it.
Corky Baxter (her mother’s first husband and history professor) stole the book.
They did not discover the theft until after Corky apparently died in a trip to
1776 to battle the Illuminate (and or the Demoreans) who were trying to change
the founding of America.
The twin, but separate, threats of the Illuminate and
Demoreans are who the Time Masters are in a constant battle against. It is
their Time War that they fight in secret.
Lady Paper gets excited that the Illuminate is real! Jeff
Smith explains that Demoreans are a race of time travelers from a parallel
dimension working on changing Earth’s history to mirror their own. Conquest by
conversion.
The Illuminate is, apparently, a group that Corky started
and is the absolute commander of. The Time Masters encountered him only once
pastward, but after his death. He hasn’t been seen since but they are sure that
he is out there…somewhere.
They decide that they need to get the book with the time
machine plans back from Corky so they can try to modify it so that clothes can
be transported. They know where Corky will be roughly in 1776 (the mission he
apparently died on) so the Brigade thinks that is a good time to intercept him.
