Picture over tokens.

I remember doing this before but maybe I'm wrong. The players will walk under a bridge. I've made a separate picture of only the bridge so that if that picture is the top layer the players will go "under" it. But the to the front feature doesn't work. I suspect special token rules shenanigan's?

Roll20 changed the behavior of tokens sometime last year that gives preference to sighted tokens controlled by a player in order to allow the player to always be able to select their token. You may have to use a token marker or other workaround to identify that they are "under" the bridge :(
Thank you for replying. Do you know the names of some workarounds I could search for?

Give the bridge sight and set it to be specifically controlled by you. (Though it may need to be a player. If so, another good use for a  Dummy Account ). It should stay in front now, but be sure to test. You may need to move or shuffle the bridge to get at tokens underneath.
Thank you for replying keithcurtis. Having the bridge be controlled by my dummy account seems to have made it work. I would never have figured that out.

I'm assuming that the bridge would still appear below other players that do not have control of it, so would prob need to have either have it controlled by all or be ready to change it on the fly. Also, be aware that the players will be able to accidentally move the bridge if they control it.
Having the bridge be controlled by my dummy account made the tokens moved my main account move under it..... that also has control of the bridge token. ah. I think I've spent to much time on this and there is much more to do. They will walk over something they should walk under. It would have helped setting the scene but it is what it is.

Yeah, I wasn't in a position where I could test. Sorry.

I am not sure what But once the player tokens go "under" the bridge, how will they get them again? The GM would have to move them out, right? When I had something like this in my game, I had a segment representing the bridge on the map when players were crossing it. When they went underneath it, I moved that segment to the GM Layer, revealing the lower level map beneath. I also had some Dynamic Lighting segments I could quickly move in and out of place. The Overpass View: The Underpass View:
That is a generous way of doing it Rabulias and I will remember that trick in the future. But I can't do that here for two reasons. 1. I didn't make the battlemap so there isn't something under the bridge I can show. 2. What I want to do isn't strictly necessary. My players can walk over and play like they walked under it no problem. The idea was to set the tone and evoke certain feelings. Compared to this they are small, here they are not the masters of the map and the world can "win". And we as players move our tokens with the arrow keys, so getting stuck would be a minor concern.
