Hi!  New Dm here, i have a group that was planning on in person DnD, so i purchased all 3 books(MM, DMG PH).  I am just recently moving over to roll20 and was wondering if i would have to purchase the items again on roll20, or if i could manually add them.

You can manually add anything at all; it just takes time. Purchasing the Roll20 versions of the sourcebooks would make things considerably easier and more automatic, as a great deal of time and effort has gone into doing the conversion work for the user. I ran my first game for the better part of a year just on the SRD, manually adding whatever I needed.
