Map is just black for players

Hey folks Pro User - simple problem I would hope but seem to be going around in circles. :) I am sure this has been asked a bunch of times. And I have read several threads here but can't seem to find an answer. I want to just be able to show a whole map to people - it is actually something that represents a tabletop in the game (in CoS - no spoilers).  But... the players just see blackness.  If I join as a player I just see blackness. Have turned off everything Have turned on everything.  Have tried revealing via fog of war. I do have no player tokens on the map - does that matter? What I am trying to do All I want is for this one map to be fully revealed - no fog - no lighting - no characters etc Is this possible? Am I missing something really, really, really obvious? Many thanks! Marcus

Is the player ribbon on the map page you are checking?  When you rejoin as player, you will be viewing whatever page is designated by the ribbon. If that is not the issue, then the best thing would be to post screenshots of the various tabs of the page settings for the page that is giving you trouble.
Oh god... I can't believe it was the ribbon... so sorry. I literally read another post a while back and it was just ribbon and thought... "ha dumbass" - now I am the dumbass. I basically had the ribbon elsewhere, as I did not want my players to join and see what I was doing whist I set it all up.  So, one last question so I understand.... If I join a map as a player to test it... do I need to have the ribbon there to see the lighting?  Mac P.S. So, so, thankful for answering what must be a really annoying question.
Sorry, so, think I understand this now. If I just want the full map to be visible - no character tokens etc. Then, just disable all the lighting, disable fog of war and it will be visible... As long as the ribbon is there?

When my players jump into a page and I have dynamic lighting turned on, they only way they can see it is if I set it to "Daylight Mode". Otherwise, it's all black. This is problem for, eg, Curse of Strahd Death House, because if I set Daylight Mode then they can see everything- all the floors! And I have rogues and such in my party that can see in dim light. How do I solve this problem? Do I have to put in my own light sources?
Ahh, of course, makes sense now.  This is what I did not understand.  Kraynic said: When you rejoin as player, you will be viewing whatever page is designated by the ribbon. Makes perfect sense...  Sincere thanks for your help here.  Take care! Mac

As long as you drop them inside each floor then they should only see what they can see. Explorer mode should help them see previously explored areas (without any vision of NPCs) and if you view the dynamic lighting layer you can remove any doors etc so they can maintain line of sight.  Just may need to manually move them to specific parts of the map. Or... you can just do it with fog of war and the polygon selection tool if easier.  Like I say, no expert, only on my second campaign as a DM and first one using dynamic lighting but... hope this helps.  Mac
