Storyline Overview For years, the evil Cult of the Dragon has devoted itself to creating undead dragons in a vain attempt to fulfill an ancient prophecy. However, the cultists were misguided. They misunderstood. But now, under new leadership, the cult believes that the prophecy does not speak of undead dragons, but of a dragon empire that's been extinct for 25,000 years. Tiamat, the queen of evil dragons, has languished in the Nine Hells for millennia. The cult believes that the time of her return is at hand. The cult has a new face and a new mission. It seeks to free Tiamat from the Nine Hells and bring her into the Forgotten Realms. To accomplish its goal, the cult needs five ancient dragon masks and the support of evil dragons everywhere. The cult leaders—each one a "dragon whisperer"—have reached out to the evil dragons of the Sword Coast and earned their allegiance. Meanwhile, evil dragons in partnership with the cult seek to amass a treasure hoard worthy of their dark queen, not by plundering their own hoards (of course) but by stealing money from cities, caravans, good-aligned dragons, merchant ships, and other sources. Their ravenous hunt for treasure throws the Sword Coast into upheaval. Neverwinter, Waterdeep, Baldur's Gate—no city is safe from their depredations. The situation is dire. However, the Sword Coast is far from defenseless. Powerful factions are ready to rise up and put an end to the tyranny of dragons. Adventurers throughout the Realms must join forces to face Tiamat, destroy the Cult of the Dragon, and prevent the rise of a new dragon empire. The Harpers have since shared their intelligence with the remaining factions. To combat the Cult of the Dragon, Lord Dagult Neverember of Neverwinter proposes that adventurers representing each of the five factions be sent north to investigate—and to report back with haste. In their hands, the future lies. Game Details Campaign: The Tyranny of Dragons (The Hoard of the Dragon Queen and The Rise of Tiamat) Date: Weekly sessions every Tuesday Time: 6:00 PM CST/7:00 PM EST Place: Virtual tabletop on Roll20, voice chat on Discord Duration: Sessions last 3-4 hours Payment: This game will require payment to the Game Master at a rate of $12 per session via Paypal. Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements. Session 0 and Session 1 are free. Why Pay to Play? Here are some of the reasons why paid games provide a superior experience: Charging a per-person fee usually eliminates player no-shows. It also shows commitment to the game and ensures serious players in place of whimsical ones. The maturity level is exponentially higher in paid games. The cost of going to a movie is far more expensive than paying for a 3-4 hour game session and lasts much longer than the movie (Nearly twice as long). Material costs associated with running a top-shelf game are covered. The DM's Roll20 Pro membership ensures that players have access to all of the extras, including D&D 5e Compendium integration, API scripts, and more. Charging a fee ensures the DM provides a friendly environment where all types of players can coexist and can be relied upon to be as reliable as the paid players in their commitment to the game. About the Dungeon Master I've been running Dungeons and Dragons games since I was 10 years old (1984) and have never wavered in my commitment to role playing games ever since. I have always run game sessions for my friends and family (including my children) throughout the years and often play online MMORPGs online such as World of Warcraft, Star Wars: The Old Republic, or Anarchy Online (And I still do). Prior to this I have never charged to run a game before. I have always done it out of the kindness of my heart and for the love of the game. It posed many problems with unreliable players, lack of seriousness (and soberness), and many other multitudes of problems that arose from simple human nature. My wife (Who also played) would become very angry after watching how much time and energy I invested into preparations to have it disrespected by players actions. The common problem in this equation is they had nothing to lose by acting out of immaturity and there was no consequence to their actions. They could miss the game session and impact the story (as well as others enjoyment of said story) without any negative adverse affect themselves. This is why I have evolved to charging for my services and I am confident I will be able to deliver the experience that others are seeking in looking for a game to join. Back to me personally, I have a vast array of diverse experience with many games which are too many to list. You would be hard pressed to mention a game that I have not run, played, or read front to back. This has allowed me to make extremely fair rulings on game mechanics and at the end of the day, my only motivation is to enhance the story and to continue the level of enjoyment that brings them back week after week. I also happened to be a very talented writer (proclaimed to me over and over again) and I love creating interesting storylines, subplots, side adventures, and really fleshing out world we are running in (even when that world has been created by others; Such as the Forgotten Realms). I demand that we have a LGBTQ friendly welcoming adult (Mature 18+) atmosphere where there are no stupid questions (only the unasked ones) and open communications so we can address any concerns (public or private) to make the game enjoyable to all parties involved and at the sacrifice of none. The reality is that I need mature consistent open minded players as much as I have to be an understanding and fair DM in order to make each weekly session enjoyable enough that you are in anticipation to see what happens in the following session throughout the whole week. You should be as excited as when you find it hard to put down a good book because you are that invested in the story that I am providing to you, except in this instance, with your help as a solid player. Character Creation Characters begin the adventure at Level 1 and play continues on a weekly basis until the adventures storyline has been completed. Those who are unfamiliar with character creation will be provided the assistance needed at no additional cost (Even if special attention is needed during session 0). The majority of the homebrew rules will be at the DM discretion. The players should not make an evil character for this campaign and dragon related backgrounds will be limited (if not excluded) at the DMs discretion due to the nature of the storyline. Character creation equality is the highest priority to the overall enjoyment of everyone involved.
