Inside The Mountain Door

Erasmus composes himself by the well. After a few minutes, he picks himself up, squeezes Summata's shoulder reassuringly and walks over to Jyrdani with blood still oozing from the wound on his chest. He grasps her shoulders and puts his forehead to hers. "Thank you for having my back just now. When we get back to civilisation, we'll have a talk. For now though, let's see what this place holds." Erasmus releases Jyrdani and approaches Jack. "Ser Jack? I apologise for my brusqueness back there. I know we had agreed to kill these orcs, and I assure you that I was first to agree to that but I was trying to get information from them. We have no idea what else lurks in these halls and that makes me nervous. If we descend to the forge below, we do so blind. "We have done a good thing today. We have liberated four more innocents but the loss of Eldred is a hard price to pay. We are a team, and we must each take the responsibility for every failure as much as every victory. I am sorry I suggested that Eldred's death was because of you alone." Erasmus reaches out a hand to Jack.
Eldred has left the building.
Jack shakes Erasmus’ hand warmly.
Erasmus grasps Jack's hand with both of his own and holds it for a moment. He releases and walks over to Syrus and wraps his arms around the half-elf. "By the Gods, Syrus. That was too close." "Ow!" groans Syrus. "My ribs!" "Oh, I'm sorry! Of course, what was I thinking?" Erasmus steps back from the Bard, checking him over. "Thank you, Qiviel, for healing him." Erasmus bows his head to the paladin. "I'm not sure what I would have done if he had perished. "Now, however, there is work to be done. If anyone feels up to it, perhaps thay could rendezvous with Tenho and the others to inform them it appears to be safe here now. Meanwhile, the rest of us can catch our breath and tend to our wounds as best we can here. We should then check every nook and cranny of this place for loot as I am sure it is what Eldred would have wanted. Once that is done, we will reunite Miss Mercelin and the others with their families and arrange the appropriate rites for Eldred, may Ilmater guide him. What say you all?" Erasmus suppresses his emotions as desperately and, outwardly at least, apparently as he can, before throwing himself intensely into the tasks at hand.

Treasures of the Mountain Door. #5 Orc Cave: Treasure. The crates and sacks in this room contain mundane supplies looted from the countryside—flour, grain, nails, and so on. The total value is about 20 gp for about 500 pounds of material. #8 Commons. Treasure. The mundane supplies have a total value of about 20 gp for about 500 pounds of material. Behind a loose stone is hidden a small locked strongbox - Yarrack has a key that fits - containing 180 gp and a flask of holy water. #11 Ogre Quarters. 210 gp stashed in an old iron cauldron under vermin-infested bedding. A small pouch in another bedding contains a topaz worth 200 gp and two onyx stones worth 50 gp each. #12 Great Ulfe's quarters. T wo large wooden chests against the south wall hold 440 gp, 1,600 sp, a potion of climbing , and a +1 rapier . There are also two small locked strongboxes, very heavy, marked with the sigil of the Mercellin coster. Sumata: "Those are ours, looted from the convoy. There'll be an additional reward if you'll bring them to Ravensburg with me." Sumata looks remarkably composed considering she's spent the past two weeks held captive by ogres.

You likely have more use for it in your line of expertise, I wager?" The potion of climbing he gives to Jack. "You may find this useful in getting the drop on someone or something." "Unless anyone else is particularly keen on the rapier, I suggest Tenho take it, as he requests. "Syrus, this is for you, to help pay for those spell scrolls. They have saved more than one of us today, and I'm sure they will continue to do so." He hands the topaz, worth 200gp, to the bard. The remaining gold, silver and gems are shared as fairly as possible. Erasmus hopes Jyrdani doesn't notice the extra silver piece in her share and think it a trifling insult. ooc cause Strohm is waiting outside the cave (Ravensburg is a bit far away close to the Roadhouse inn and north of Cumin inn)
ooc (also why is there a share for Muiz when I am playing Strohm XD)
WhiteValyrian said: ooc (also why is there a share for Muiz when I am playing Strohm XD) Coz I put your name instead of Malied's. Corrected, thanks. :)
No Problem :)
GM: Great Ulfe's corpse has flea-ridden ogre ringmail & the key to the Mercellin strongboxes. Let me know if you want to take Sumata back to Ravensburg now (& if you want to hand over the Mercellin coffers), in which case I can do a time jump forward a Tenday to when you have long rested and trained. The Mercellin can put you up at an Inn they own in Ravensburg, the Goodrock, named after its dwarf manager Tobin Goodrock. Norrin could train to 5th level in10 days at the Ravensburg Mercenary's Guild (10gp membership & 40gp training fee) under Weapon Master Hiriuf, Strohm & Jyrdani could self train in 10 days (20gp), Jack could train with Sir Veritas of the Golden Thorn in 5 days (no charge). Other PCs need more XP to level.

P.S. Eldred found a sack of silver and gold in the Ettin nest. Cant remember the exact amount 70gp 210sp at a guess it's in the chamber with the ettins body. there's also a sack of 160 sp in the room you found Burdug in, and finally Eldred snaffled Burdug's spear, it's not magical but might be worth keeping as a trophy, whatever *shrug, head falls off*
ooc that is preferable we get to level up and Syrus can make more spell scrolls and we can raid the crimson monks for Eramus at full strength. the only upset is that we wont raid Gurzun festhall for Lady Barbara
WhiteValyrian said: ooc that is preferable we get to level up and Syrus can make more spell scrolls and we can raid the crimson monks for Eramus at full strength. the only upset is that we wont raid Gurzun festhall for Lady Barbara Barbara is willing to wait & get Sumata home & see her champion Norrin rested & trained. Also she knows the Mercellin and knows they are valuable friends to have. She'll want her Hall reclaimed before you take on the Crimson Monks - "D'Ashe Manor would make an excellent base of operations for your party" - although it *is* a Festhall and she seems inclined to keep it that way. Assuming mighty Gurzun and his score of veteran mercenaries have no say in the matter, of course.
"If we are leaving here now, we shall take Eldrrd's body (and head) to give him an appropriate funeral. Whatever treasure he has should go to either his family or a temple. Does anyone know if he worshipped any particular deity? If not, we shall find a temple dedicated to St Sollars. "Miss Mercellin, we will indeed escort you and the others to Ravensburg. We need to find you all some clothes. Please, remind me when we get to the city to purchase some spare; we seem to have a habit of stumbling across vestment-impaired women wherever we go!" (I presume we are all happy to take the journey and the long rest? We can return to assist Tenho raid the forge at a later date if that is something anyone wishes to do. Unless there is anything further that anyone wishes to accomplish here before we go, I propose we end this thread and start another IC one for the ten-day. Thoughts?)

OOC I really want to try the Dwarf Door. Erasmus doesn't, but Tim does! Do we have any way of opening it from a distance? We have the key...

re clothes for the captives, there is a good amount stockpiled amongst the ogres' loot.

ooc so yeah the dwarven door remained sealed for now maybe we do an investigation at the dwarven village nearby the fallen hall for clues after Gurzun festhall is dealt with.
OOC I'm pretty sure we found a key in the first room (where Burdurg was sleeping). I'm on my phone so can't find the link to the log at the mo).

You get 1,000gp from the Mercellin for returning Sumata safely, another 1,000gp for their strongboxes (so 2,000 total across the 9 surviving adventurers = 222gp each), plus free accommodation at their Inn & promises of friendship, future assistance and/or employment, etc. :)

5th level congrats Norrin!
Matt said: 5th level congrats Norrin! First in Faerun Adventures, and only took 4 years! :D You can see Norrin's original AD&D sheet at https://loremistressfaerunadventures.blogspot.com/?zx=4884bde5398935d2
FOUR YEARS! o_O
Thanks, everyone. I hope Norrin has a long and illustrious adventuring career in Faerun. Here's a little background on the Norrin character. 1979, I was 11 years old (yeah, I'm an old guy). My older brother brought home a new game. On the cover of the box, a warrior and a wizard were battling a dragon sitting atop a pile of gold, and this was a type of game different than any other game we played before. He taught me some of the basic rules and we sat down with some cousins and began to play. In the back of the rule book were some pre-generated characters, and I had chosen one, "Norrin the Barbarian," as my very first character. The adventure included in the box set was Dungeon Module B-1, In Search of the Unknown. Well, from that point forward, I was hooked, and I became Norrin, and he became me. Over the many years, he had become my very favourite character, sort of my alter-ego, he is like Batman is to Bruce Wayne. I've used and re-used him in many different campaigns. When the original boxed set for The Forgotten Realms was release in the late 80's and I started learning about Realms lore, I immediately set out to create a believable background for him. Sticking with the barbarian theme, I decided he would be a 'civilized' barbarian. The novel Darkwalker on Moonshae solidified that, and that's how he became the son of both the warlike Northmen and the peaceful Ffolk. He was born and grew up in Waterdeep, but is still very much a Northman at heart. Then, as PBeM and PbP gaming became more mainstream, I sought out FR-based games where I could expand on the character and his history. Some campaigns lasted longer than others, but I am proud to say that although the games themselves died, Norrin never has. Although I know the time will come that he has to retire permanently and never be used as a character again, I will remember with much fondness the many hours of enjoyment I've had portraying this figment of my imagination.
Nice Geoff and cheers for Norrin continued adventures
I loved hearing this Geoff! :)
@TIM - THANK YOU for dividing up all the loot. The gems are most gratefully received as they will definitely go towards scrolls for the party's next adventure! (*Erasmus grasps Jack's hand with both of his own and holds it for a moment. He releases and walks over to Syrus and wraps his arms around the half-elf. "By the Gods, Syrus. That was too close." "Ow!" groans Syrus. "My ribs!" "Oh, I'm sorry! Of course, what was I thinking?" Erasmus steps back from the Bard, checking him over.) ... On seeing Erasmus presenting him with the Onyx and Topaz gems in addition to his share of the loot, Syrus suddenly felt the pain of his ribs lifted ;) "Oh 'Ras, it is usually you that I expect to see in this position of discomfort, not me!" Syrus stands up, and on seeing Eldred's headless body next to him, feels sudden dizziness come over him and grabs Jack's shoulder to steady himself (hoping no one sees that he was about to pass out). "Thanks Jack for defending my life! I saw how you stood over me when I woke up." And THEN he notices that Jack had Eldred's head in his hands. Before he managed to thank Quivel for saving his life, Syrus rushes around the corner as he could taste a bit of vomit in his mouth. Realisation then dawned on him that it could be his own head that Jack was holding instead - the Gods of Faerun were indeed watching over him on this very day!!
