Images inserted in the body of a handout won't load

Is anyone else experiencing this? I write the handouts out on a word processor and include pictures through it. When I copy-paste them in, it shows up fine, but when I save the handout, it either does not appear at all or appears as a blank white square if I resized it before saving. Old handouts I have created with pictures look fine but I can't add any new pictures. Appreciate any help on this!
A few more details on this (still unsolved) issue: 1 - a screenshot of my experience saving a handout after entering and resizing a picture (not resizing it will result in just a blank page) 2 - since other handouts that previously had images are untouched, I experimented with copying from those handouts and pasting them in and it worked Any thoughts?

In general, images pasted into the field will not save if they are not already hosted on the web somewhere. I suspect there's some crucial missing metadata.
Thanks for responding! This this a new requirement? I have been able to paste and save before. If so, how can I embed hosted images into the body? There doesn't seem to be a button for that in the text editor for handouts.
