In my campaign world Drow are not Dark Elves, Dark Elves are not Drow.   Drow are Followers of Lloth, therefore a religious faction that is made up of elves that left the fold and other races that wish to serve the demon queen.       These dark elves, which no one really calls them such outside of non residents of Thechlon are actually Mountain Elves, live in all districts and hold positions and status throughout the elven community.    Mountain Elves do have darker skin than other races of elves.   They are the crafters and miners of elves.  If one finds an elfin made weapon, armor, or other magic items, it has been most likely made by the mountain elves.  Mountain elves and grey elves share a lot of common ground.   They have an innate love and interest in magic, but they tend to be more interested in shaping and other objects into pieces of artful creations that they endow with their magic.   In this way, they share a commonality with dwarves in their love of crafting gems and precious metal.   Mountain Elf Stats are: 1)Their LA has been changed to 0 2)They do not have Spell resistance 3)They receive spell like the spell like abilities of Drow 4)Mountain Elves may choose to have Superior Darkvision and Light Sensitivity or have the standard Low light vision of the elves.   This will show that they are used to light from living above ground.   This distinguishes the Mountain Elves the are miners and live within the mountains from those that have migrated to the surface.    5)Weapon Proficiency: A Mountain Elf is automatically proficient with the hand crossbow, the rapier, short sword and the military pick.   Since a lot of the Mountain elves tend to be the miners, blacksmiths and armorers of the elves, having weapons that can be used in close quarters is a plus. 6)Replacing the search ability of surface elves, Mountain Elves have: Stonecunning: This ability grants a mountain elf a +2 racial bonus on Search checks to notice unusual stonework, such as sliding walls, stonework traps, new construction (even when built to match the old), unsafe stone surfaces, shaky stone ceilings, and the like. Something that isn’t stone but that is disguised as stone also counts as unusual stonework. A Mountain Elf who merely comes within 10 feet of unusual stonework can make a Search check as if he were actively searching, and a Mountain Elf can use the Search skill to find stonework traps as a rogue can, thus granting the Mountain Elf the class feature Trapfinding when dealing with Stonework traps.  A Mountain Elf can also intuit depth, sensing his approximate depth underground as naturally as a human can sense which way is up Elves, even though they can move around and do different things, culturally: Grey Elves tend to be more associated with magic, High Elves are seen as the merchants and farmers, wood elves are seen as the warriors, and Mountain elves are the miners, jewelers, and metal workers of the elves.    Stats for various Elf Races: Wood Elves are the elves that live in the forested outskirts of Thechlon. They are strong, independent and most half breeds stem from their lands since there is the highest population of humans and dwarves living among them. High Elves are the common elves. They are the merchants, farmers, craftsmen and often are the elves that tend to travel through foreign lands the most plying their wares, thus the most commonly seen and known elf. Grey Elves: They are the elusive elves whose lives are tempered and directed by their love of magic.
