WELCOME TO WATERDEEP! A fantastic, once-in-a-lifetime treasure trove is yours for the taking--unfortunately, you’re not the only one looking to claim it as your own… It all begins simply enough, a chance encounter, a simple quest. But soon, the plot thickens into what will assuredly be a mad romp through the wards of Waterdeep as a group of fledgling adventurers uncover a villainous plot involving some of the city’s most influential figures. A grand urban caper awaits. Pit your skill and bravado against villains the likes of which you’ve never faced before, and let the dragon* hunt begin! * Note, dragon here refers to the name Waterdavians, the people of Waterdeep, use to refer to gold coins Once Upon A Time In Waterdeep, a 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons Waterdeep: Dragon Heist campaign in the world of the Forgotten Realms Hello, and thank you for interest in this upcoming campaign! The following information will provide additional details that will help you determine whether this game might be a good fit for you, and if so, how to apply for one of the available player slots. Who: This game will be geared toward all playing experience levels--everyone from absolute beginners to veteran players are encouraged to submit a request-to-join application. Now, a bit about myself, to give you an idea of what you can expect of me as a Dungeon Master. My name is Shane. I am 48 years old, married, and have two kids. I have been playing RPGs since 1984, most of that time as a DM. I tend to prefer less crunchy games and am not really that interested in tinkering with mechanics, character builds, and that sort of thing. I tend to run games rules as written—but I am not afraid to make a ruling on the fly to keep the game moving. My favorite aspects of RPGs are shared storytelling, problem solving, and action. I like to roleplay NPC interactions, etc. but I am not a voice actor. I do what I can with my limited “acting” abilities, but will most often use my own voice while playing NPCs. I also like to joke and laugh while playing and appreciate good puns, plays on words, etc. Finally, as a Dungeon Master, I want the players to succeed, but I do not make it easy on them. My goal is to have the players sweat a little bit and then have them snatch victory from the jaws of defeat at the last moment. Of course, not every scenario is a nail-biter, but you get the idea. What: This campaign will use standard 5th edition D&D rules and will not include homebrew material, Unearthed Arcana content, 3 rd party content, or house rules. Characters will start at 1st level and be built using the rules as detailed in the Players Handbook, using either the Standard Array or 27-point buy method. Players may use options from Xanathar's Guide to Everything or Volo's Guide to Monsters. This game will use Milestone advancement and characters should advance to level 5 through the course of this campaign. I expect this campaign will take about a year to complete, so please keep this in mind before submitting your request to join. Social Contract Disclaimer: This game is meant to be inclusive, fun, and safe for all participants. All players are expected to adhere to the following code of conduct: Participants must not conduct themselves in a manner that is disruptive to the enjoyment or safety of others (i.e., Don’t be a jerk) Participants noticing disruptive behavior should make those responsible for the behavior aware of their actions. If a participant feels uncomfortable bringing it to the attention of the disruptive individual, the participant should notify the Dungeon Master immediately (i.e., See Something, Say Something) Participants who feel as though they are in an unsafe environment should notify the Dungeon Master immediately (i.e., See Something, Say Something) I reserve the right to dismiss disruptive players from the game (i.e., Thanks, but no thanks) I won’t tolerate aggressive (passive, micro, other otherwise) behavior toward other participants of the game (i.e., Don’t be a jerk) Where: From the comfort of your own home! We will use Roll20 for the virtual tabletop and Discord for voice. Note: All players must have a dedicated microphone and/or headset, i.e., not an integrated laptop microphone. We won’t be using video feeds and I have no intention of streaming this game or recording it as an actual play podcast, etc. When: Saturday 7 to 10 pm Central U.S. (UTC -6) Frequency: Bi-weekly (every other week), with the option of occasionally playing weekly if our schedules permit. Why: Because playing D&D is fun! How: If, after reading everything listed above, you’re interested in playing in this game, please view the Game Listing here: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/282292/once-upon-a-time-in-waterdeep
Here is an example of what I am looking for: A brief bio to include your experience with D&D, RPGs in general, and or Roll20: I started playing D&D in the summer of 1984 and have played and DM'd every edition of the game. I have played other RPGs over the years as well, but D&D is my favorite. I have used Roll20 since 2012 and am familiar with it. Do you have a dedicated microphone? Yes Are you able to play Saturday evenings 7 to 10 pm Central U.S.? Yes Do you agree to the Social Contract posted in the Game Information thread? Yes Have you played the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist adventure before? No, but I DM'd it for my kids. One-sentence character concept: Idealistic young acolyte of Lathander Character Name: Brother Thomm Character Race and Class: Human Cleric Character Background: Thomm hails from a nomadic barbarian people. He was taken by Crusaders of Lathander when he was a very young boy and subsequently raised in the temple. He remembers little of his clan, save for a few memories of his dear mother and festivities surrounding an annual hunt. Character Personality: Thomm is an idealistic young man dedicated to doing the bidding of his temple: most notably finding and destroying forces which would willingly draw the world to chaos. Physical Description: Thomm is a short but stocky young man with bronzed skin and dark, swarthy features. Were it not for his warm brown eyes, gentle smile, and the holy symbol of Lathander emblazoned on his shield, he could easily be mistaken for a brutish thug. Anything else you want me to know? I am open to adjusting my character concept to fit the needs of the story and/or party.
