Quest Description Father Cadfael has grown concerned of late due to the disappearance of one of his most promising acolytes, a young woman by the name of Tyren. The woman had been bound for an abbey high in the mountains when she disappeared without a trace, leading Cadfael to believe that she has fallen afoul of the notorious bandit clans that call the mountains home. He is offering a reward of 2 potions of greater healing and two scrolls of reincarnation to the party that can track her down and bring her (or her body) safely back to Hope. Alexandria and Sairina are leading a desperate attempt to rescue Tyren (and hopefully Artemis AND even one of the haunted house casualties if they can time it right!). With Plank providing directions for the haunted house and a shady looking character going by the name of Karson "Angel Eyes" on board, the team are looking for healer type to join! Alexandria's Journal : Sanguine Lodge I 1 Leaffall Highharvestide has come and gone and as the trees start to shed their leaves, I find myself strangely hopeful for the first time in a while… I see a genuine chance to save Artemis at last and as it is presented in the guise of rescuing another citizen of Hope, I feel the blessing of Bahamut in my soul again. The darkness and distractions of the past weeks felt lifted last night as I sat with this likely group and listened to their banter and squabbles - Bahamut be praised indeed. “Best Friend”  Uklah  brings me supreme comfort and confidence. Her prowess in battle and disastrous heartbreaks have seen her grow every day I see her. She is a formidable presence and it’s almost amusing to see the nervousness she instills in some (although they are the wise ones, she is NOT to be taken lightly!).   Sairina  continues to impress me and it is easy to see why Artemis counts her as such a staunch friend and ally. She is more than just impressive armour and I have seen up close her ferocity and prowess. I have a sense she’ll be needed in the days ahead I almost feel sorry for  Plank . I’m not sure what he must think of me as each time we’ve met, it’s been as a result of me dumping water on him… my gut tells me he is a true warrior despite his protestations and appearance. Bahamut tells me to trust him and he’s not asked about “rewards” at all, seemingly content in doing something “good”… although he does seem the most nervous of  Uklah , I don’t sense it’s truly cowardliness! Rofir ’s calm demeanour is reassuring. Although relatively new to town, he seems seasoned enough and should provide an invaluable party member. His measured approach so far is certainly impressive, he seems to have a knack for asking clever questions and not getting distracted by petty nonsense Talking of petty nonsense, I hope  Karson  doesn’t prove a “problem”. He comes recommended as man to solve problems although I still don’t know who really recommends him… I’m not sure I necessarily want to pull on that thread at this stage! Credentials aside, he is certainly confident in his abilities (and looks) although I question how much time he’s spent out in the Frontier and I certainly doubt he’s travelled with companions like  Uklah  or  Sairina  before. If he irks them, he may find he’s bitten off more than he can handle! Our first day’s travel seemed mostly fine. I’m not totally convinced  Uklah  didn’t get slightly lost, I hope this period of mourning passes soon (at least I assume that’s what has her off her game slightly). I take it back,  Uklah  is back on form with the amazing presentation of something she called Bentoe Boxes - delicious and gorgeous.    I think  Plank  may have inhaled his - although I do not blame him, they were truly a treat! 2 Leaffall What a night! Perhaps lulled into a false sense of security with the delicious meal, we had yet another reminder that no amount of planning can prepare a party for the dangers out here. Woken to the sounds of ghouls swarming the camp, I was soon overwhelmed and paralysed. Lying there watching  Sairina  and  Plank  throw themselves at the foe, I saw  Uklah  fall too after almost all the ghouls shrugged off her attempts to repel them. Arrows flying out of  Karson ’s tent indicated he was still in the fight but things indeed looked dire. Emerging into the light of the campfire,  Rofir  may have saved us all! The foul creatures turned by his divine urging and allowing a chance for  Uklah  and myself to gain our feet.  Plank  was briefly overcome despite his whirling blades doing mighty damage, but  Sairina  danced through their ranks cutting them down left and right and we soon had the situation back in hand. We proceeded with caution for the rest of the day. Quiet reflection seemed appropriate as we passed so many familiar landmarks to many. 3 Leaffall The night passed mostly uneventfully. I did hear sounds of potential trouble in the distance (the chittering laughter of Gnolls maybe?) but damping down the fire seemed to help avoid attracting too much attention… Pushing on, we spotted a cave in the distance that was later revealed to be host to a dragon… we met a party of three beings patrolling with some sort of Elemental bound to their service. Their leader, Naer, advised that the Blue Dragon, Zundaedaerth, “ruled” these lands and that if we were to visit again, we should prepare tribute! Naer didn’t elaborate on “what” that meant, but I suspect it wouldn’t be cheap! Looking at the party, I sensed they didn’t really have much coin on hand. They have thrown in with me on this quest and yet there has been no real ask about payout. I sense the gentle influence of Bahamut blessing us but I also worry if we were to get separated.   Coming to the river without too much trouble ( Karson  almost got swept away but managed to make it across eventually) we set up camp nervously with signs of Giants to the North and Trolls to the South. During the night, we were also visited by the sound of beautiful singing and horrific harp music drifting on the air from the South West. Thinking about Muredach’s niece, we have agreed to see if we can find the source and (if it is truly her) rescue the poor girl! I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but if I should fall, my companions should not risk their lives without payment. Sneaking into their tents during my watch, I have ensured they have some payment at least. I don’t like the dishonesty, but I trust you’ll approve of this small lie Bahamut, these are good people (even  Karson ) who deserve your blessing AND some coin! 4 Leaffall Curse these people, they know the weight of their coin purses too well! Luckily, the danger allowed us to move beyond too many questions - although I need to keep an eye on  Karson  who attempted to claim it was his own… sneaky bastard ha! Our travel drew us closer to the sound of singing and we soon happened upon a run down tower. As  Karson  scouted forward, I may have tripped on a rock and made a loud clank. The harp music (if you can call it that) stopped and we prepared for inevitable combat… Moving to the right flank of the tower,  Sairina  stopped and shouted a challenge at something I couldn’t see.  Plank  moved to join her and readied himself - although he didn’t seem to feel the need to shout anything… Karson ,  Rofir , and  Uklah  moved towards the left flank of the tower before whatever  Sairina  had challenged responded and I lost sight of her and  Plank  in a cloud of fog. Rushing to the edge of the cloud, I couldn’t hear any sound of them in pain. I invoked the blessing of Bahamut and Moon’s Edge glistened with divine blessing as I charged headlong into the fog. Gods it hurt as the vapour clawed at my eyes and throat but I managed to push through and came face to face with a giant being of some sort (apparently it’s an Ettin). The creature stood well over 10ft tall with two heads that very much harboured ill intent! As I swing away, I tore chunks out of it’s flesh without it seeming to really notice. Suddenly,  Sairina  emerged from the fog to join the combat… she did NOT look happy! Carving more chunks from the creature, it still didn’t seem too distracted. Then  Plank  burst from the fog, eyes also streaming from the poison, and added his bladework to the cause. I saw one of  Karson ’s arrows fly wide of the creature before one of  Rofir ’s struck true. The Ettin seemed distracted by this as it’s morningstar swings flew wide before it seemed to call on magic to heal itself.  Plank  swung true again but was then almost battered to the floor by a brutal counterattack. The sight of it healing itself must have unnerved  Karson  as I saw another arrow fly wide before  Rofir  and  Uklah ’s arrows struck true and  Sairina  slashed at the flank. Spotting an opening, I landed a blow that would normally open a critical artery on most but one of the heads seemed to wink as my blow merely sliced the flesh. As we pressed our advantage,  Karson  found his range by dancing into view and hit it with a telling blow. This seemed to anger it though and it conjured the earth around to erupt, it hurt like the hells and  Plank  crumpled. Before I could even shout, it almost rendered me unconscious with a blow from it’s battleaxe.  Uklah  and  Rofir  dashed to the rescue though and soon had  Plank  back on his feet. He staggered up and hit the thing with a blow of supreme accuracy, although once again the head seemed to wink at the last second!  Uklah ’s arrow then bounced off as an invisible shield sprung up.  Rofir  conjured a brutal spiritual blade and arrow combination    which brought the thing to it’s knees before  Sairina  was able to land a devastating final blow to end it’s life… As the dust settled, we found it was indeed Alarielle being held captive and offered her the choice to return home or accompany us. She chose to come with us and after we gathered the Ettin’s loot, we headed North towards the pass we had spotted. Sure enough, there was our destination, an inn called the Sanguine Lodge. Entering, the owners seemed slightly suspicious but maybe it’s just the tiredness creeping in… they did at least have a room free and we settled in to rest…

“Hey man, sorry I can’t be outside for this but we are held up in a weird hotel in the middle of a swamp… so it’s close enough. Anyways man, this quest started like all the rest… outside the Stuck Pig. Well we all started talking in the tavern the night before but that was really confusing with two people named Alexandria, a nice Paladin lady and a purple tiefling but the tiefling is also named Plank… I also met a nice lizard lady named Uklah who made everyone lunch, a sailor guy named Karson who everyone doesn’t like for some reason, and a shiny elf who likes killing ghouls named Sairina.       Anyway, we left on our mounts, Pineapple Express was such a good boy I think you would be proud… well we got slightly lost on the first day but we ended up okay I think. The night is when the real fun began. We started talking around the fire but then Uklah got out her bento boxes and fed us all some rice for dinner. The rice tasted like pork somehow and that was a very nice surprise. Then everyone else but Sairina and I went to sleep as we started our watch. We talked about my upbringing and how I can talk to plants and animals… I don’t think she believes me all that much since the grass couldn’t respond in a way for her to understand but I know that the grass was comforted by me letting it know that we wouldn’t burn it…      Anyways, we then we’re almost ambushed by a horde of ghouls but luckily we heard them stepping on some twigs before they fully reached us. Combat was interesting watching such skilled fighters in their comfort zone man… it was like watching a dance… we defended ourselves fairly well but the ghouls took a liking to me. I survived… obviously… because if I didn’t I wouldn’t be talking to you… Anyways,  the next day was fairly uneventful. Every time we passed something everyone but Karson and I reminisced about the past… it became clear that most of these people have some experience on me and Karson out here but that’s okay man, I felt like we pulled our weight thus far.       The third day was crazy man, we almost ended up in a desert and met this really intense guy named “Nere”, I think… and he was with some guys in armor and a tornado thing… anyways he said he worked for a dragon named “Sunday dark” or something like that… I can’t remember perfectly, dragons have weird names and I shouldn’t be expected to remember it after hearing it once… anyways the dragon wanted a present from us but then the guy said it was okay to not give him a present as long as we kept going, which is what we were doing anyway man so like, calm down.       Anyways we then hit a river and had to swim across, I can’t remember the last time I swam like that so it was kinda fun. Then we camped for the night nearby a giant fortress and a troll cave… luckily they didn’t mind but we heard this weird harp band and everyone recognized it as the lost niece of the blacksmith so we put our adventure on hold to go and check it out in the morning. We followed the horrible music to an abolished tower and eventually found an ettin, oh yeah, that’s a two headed giant but this one also casts magic.       Anyways man, we battled it and he had a beefy dude… or they were a beefy dude… dudes… Anyways man it cast some poison cloud at everyone so I just kept peppering it with arrows and kept some healing in my back pocket if needed. The Alexandria that is named Plank too went down once and Uklah and I healed him. I eventually used my spiritual weapon to give it a good blow before Sairina drove her blade though the giant’s belly. In retrospect I can change the shape of that weapon… a sword is very basic and not at all  my vibe, I should think about that next time…      Anyways we found the girl and it was the blacksmith's niece. I cut the beards off the ettin’s chins to keep as a trophy and we then made our way to the Lodge. I kind of zoned out a bit here, maybe too I had one to many puffs of my pipe, but the owners seem sketchy. We shall see in the morning I guess but until next time man, peace out!”
Love it!!!

Alexandria's Journal : Sanguine Lodge II 6 Leaffall A visitor arrived before we turned in… Sofia seems strange to me although maybe it’s just the late hour. She reminds me of the students who took their oaths like I did back home, those not “gifted” with the blessing to enter the clergy proper (like Artemis). She has the determined look of someone driven by purpose but still, there’s something there I can’t quite put my finger on. Still, Bahamut willing, her arrival will be fortuitous… I have a feeling we could use all the help finding where Tyren has gotten to.  Curse this filthy place! As we settled in to rest, we decided to keep a watch in case it wasn’t just our tiredness feeding our suspicions. Karson decided to do some “scouting” but seemed to somehow stir up all manner of noise and suspicion from the tavern keepers. We eventually managed to sneak out the front door and scout around to the back of the building. We gained entry and started to investigate the kitchen we found there... we were undiscovered for all of 10 seconds maybe… some sort of spell caster threw a spell at us from the doorway and several burly gentlemen ran forward like fools! Sairina was quick to react and soon had two of them backpedaling from her impressive swordplay. Plank rushed to assist her and the two began pressing their left flank backwards (flank… like it was a battlefield and not some blasted kitchen!). Meanwhile Rofir and Karson moved towards their right but were pressed back by more magic and a hail of arrows from some archers sheltering in the doorway. Uklah burst through to aid them… her energy focussed on helping rather than being caught up with bloodthirsty rage. While it is great to see her in control, I do sometimes miss the maelstrom of destruction her bloodlust can generate! Sofia was next into the room. While I suspected she had similar training to myself, I had thought she was too wet behind the ears to assist too much if combat was joined in earnest… that didn’t factor in her bravery as she threw herself at a man about to try and strike Sairina from her blind side, earning a nasty blow in retaliation. The initial push had carried us far into their ranks but their weight of numbers was starting to tell and both Sairina and Sofia looked somewhat injured. Indeed, Sairina feel to the floor under a withering onslaught from her opponent. I rushed in and used my connection to the Justicemaker to heal her wounds, and Sofia - although I was too focused on them to worry about drawing my own blade… as the enemy forces began to rally, it took a mighty push from Sairina , Plank , and myself to fell the bigger enemies. With these “ringleaders” dealt with, we pushed to overthrow the rest of them. The spellcaster fell to Sairina’ s blade while Karson knocked out a female archer for “questioning” while we ran the last of them down. While we questioned the archer, Sofia seemed to disappear dragging one of the still warm corpses with her. As the archer laughed at our questions, noises from the kitchen caused us to turn to see Sofia … feeding… on the slain. I guess the archer didn’t realise they were dead and started blabbing. She confirmed that there were captives below the building and that some of the people we’d fought were their captors looking to take them “north”. We found a note on one of them (the fat oaf “Derek”) that mentioned a “Festival of the Verdant Tower” and a “Red Goddess”. The prisoners were to be delivered to the “Blood Vault” and “Sister Alkava” promised he’d be handsomely rewarded… this does not bode well. I will consult with Brother Cadfael back in Hope once we get back. But first, we need to rescue these prisoners… Taking a quick break to ready ourselves, I couldn’t help but eye Sofia warily. She seems honest and her intentions good. She seemed as disgusted (or maybe more disgusted) at the contents of the note and the possible meaning… but “what” is she? For now, I’ll trust in Bahamut that her purpose is pure… As we crept down into the basement, we found the prisoners unguarded! Until they weren’t… as we stepped forward, skeletal creatures rose up to stop us. These malevolent beings seemed driven by pure evil and were dangerous foes. Sofia seemed taken by burning hatred for them and threw herself forward almost immediately. I have no doubt of her any more. Either her motives or her bravery! Not to be outdone, Sairina joined her and the two were soon hard pressed. Plank may act the drunkard and the buffoon but his heart is pure and when needed, he has no hesitation to throw himself into danger to aid his friends. He is a truly worthy ally! While Uklah , Karson , and Rofir sensibly kept their distance to try and whittle the skeletons down from afar, I joined the fray and was rewarded with a telling blow on one of the foul beings. I felt the cleansing light of Bahamut surge through me and the skeleton exploded! As we moved to the others, Sairina  (inevitably) felled one with a brutal sweeping series of strikes before the final skeleton fell from a combination of blows. Many young girls (all young girls) were held in a cage here. But aside from their terror and some dirt, they seemed generally unharmed. Tyren was here and she helped us get the girls up the stairs and into the wagon that had previously belonged to Derek. Some of the girls are from Hope, some from Strahd’s Gallows, and some from other places in between… we’ve agreed to escort them home while we stop off to check out the Mansion that Plank says he saw his companions killed in previously. If we can recover their bodies (or at least the body of this Lathander worshipper “Borin”) then we can return them to Brother Cadfael along with Tyren and hopefully this will be enough to buy Artemis’ freedom from that petrified tomb…

Karson's Dairy Dear diary, You are my favourite person to talk to, who else can understand how deep and intellectual I am than me, not to mention the constant compliments on how great I look. Reggie finally gave me a contract after waiting for I don’t know how long to make some easy cash since arriving at this shithole, finally joining this little guild may prove beneficial. I can't stand living with mum for another day, probably getting eaten by some random swamp troll is less painful then listening to her bitching day in and day out. Apparently it's easy, go in, pick a lock, release a beautiful woman and return home, probably talking about 20 minutes tops, he said.  I awaited in the tavern to get a good look at my "companions", Reggie told me to play nice, whatever that means… did he mean something by that? I bet he did, the prick! Anyways there is some scaly bitch, some big blue bitch that seemed high, another blue bitch but this one was drunk instead of baked and a couple of hot lasses. Well I say hot, probably fives or sixes to be honest. After introducing themselves to each other, whatever their names were, we began our travel. After the first hour I realized that Reggie was full of shit, twenty minutes my mum's hairy arse, what a load of ol shite. Nothing happened whatsoever on the first day, I thought adventuring out was all fighting and killing dragons n shit, most exciting thing that happened was me expertly killing some big duck thing, or what it a chicken? Whatever it was, it's dead as fuck now. Was a bit pissed off at dinner time though, I thought we would feast on the mighty beast I killed but instead the scaly one gave everyone these little wooden boxes to eat, like i'm gonna eat a wooden box, do I look like a beaver or sumthin? Then afterwards she wanted to brush my hair, last time I let a lizardfolk near me, she was trying to take a bite out my cock…never again I'm letting of those kind anywhere near little Karson, still getting over that… the scars still itch.  Day two was a little more interesting I suppose, we got attack by a bunch of stinky fuckers…and I aint talking about the party, was some nasty looking undead. They didn’t seem to want to enter my tent so I just sat in my bedroll and fired from the warmth of my blanket, others weren’t smart enough to do that and went in face of which seemed like a mistake as a couple got knocked out. I must remember the next time I get attacked while resting, stay in bed.  Nothing happened on the third day, if they say to people back home that I fell in a river and got swept downstream, they’re lying cunts and I hope their whole family gets syphilis. Oh yea killed some Ettin i wasnt paid to fight, i better get extra for that...
