Location: Hurkville, Illinois
Start Date: December 8, Wednesday
Description: A city just north of Chicago that’s about a third the size of New York. The air quality is poor and, depending on which part of the city you live in, the streets are either dirty or clean. Industry is booming, promising jobs and opportunity for entrepreneurs. Along with the city’s industry, crime is also booming.
Who’s Who: The local Italian mob, the Russo Family, has most of the public officials in their back pockets. In addition to the Italians, there’s the Irish Clery Gang who prefer brutality over bribes and payoffs. Above everyone is the ever-watchful eyes of the God-Machine. Its circuits and cables weave throughout the city like a hidden nervous system, and Its Infrastructure supports most of the city like a skeleton.
What’s Going On: Chess pieces have begun to show up all over the city. Anyone who owns these pieces gain power, and the more they posses the more power they gain. The Russo Family and the Clery Gang want these pieces for the power they grant, and the demons want to collect them to stop whatever Occult Matrix may be forming.
Character Creation: Create a demon or demon-blooded: demons are encouraged. Your character has is a newbie in Hurkville, so every player gets 2 EXP to spend. Restrict Merits that give influence over spheres of authority (Police, Politics, etc.) to a maximum of 2. Keep any ties to the Italian Mafia small or nonexistent. Supernaturals as Allies, Contacts, etc. are allowed; no Mummies or Beasts. Come up with a reason of why you work with the other players, and why you are 99.99% sure they won’t stab you in the back. Simply stating “We help each other out from time to time.” will not work, I want meaningful relationships.
Extra: Create NPCs. Create places of interest in Hurkville. These locations should be used for world building, not a way to start with free resources for your character. Create a plot hook. Doing any of these will get you a beat.
I reserve the right to reject any suggestion, be it character related, NPC, place of interest, or plot hook. I believe in the “No, but…” mentality, so please don’t let the fear of me saying no stop you from submitting suggestions. Remember, games are supposed to be fun!
