I am seeking players for a game of The Blossoms are Falling for Burning Wheel Gold.
The Blossoms are Falling is, in case you've not come across it, a supplement for Burning Wheel which sets the game in Heian-era Japan. Under the eye of divine emperor, squabbling courtiers, monks and bushi play their games of power while the infrastructure of Nihon crumbles and troubles beset the peasantry. Depending on group consensus you might play downtrodden peasants, noble bushi, pious monks, or scheming courtiers (or even a mixture of all sorts!). If you do not have access to The Blossoms are Falling that's fine, we'll make it work.
I have no requirements regarding experience nor skill, but I do have one for enthusiasm. For any Burning Wheel game to work you need players interested in exploring their characters and engaging with their beliefs, as well as communication amongst the players. You should also be at least somewhat willing to engage with the system as we go, as BW tends to run better as people learn its intricacies. You must also have working audio.
Structural notes: the game will run weekly; preliminarily Wedneday evenings (GMT+1). Session length will probably vary, around 3-5 hours.
My table is explicitly LGBTQ+ friendly, as well as having a hard ban on racism, sexism, etc. (seriously, no slurs) – to be clear, that’s for table behaviour. I don’t have a ban on those themes in games, but it’s the sort of thing that needs clear and frequent conversation. Particularly in cases like this, where we don’t know each other very well, we’ll be using X-card rules as well as discussing lines & veils (if you're not familiar with these don't worry, we'll explain them), to make sure that everyone has the tools they need to treat each other well. If you don’t understand why this note needs to be here it would avoid wasting everyone’s time if you just declined to apply.
The setting of the game contains some assumptions regarding social norms (mostly as they apply to gender) - this is somewhat hard-coded into the system and difficult to outright remove, but there's a lot of wiggle room for specific implementation (eg. yes you can be a woman Bushi warlord, though the book says otherwise). If you feel like that sort of thing might be a dealbreaker for you I welcome a conversation about how we can adjust things to everyone's satisfaction – no one game element (or collection of game elements) is worth more than the comfort of my players!
