The Fangs of Cerberus

Hello and welcome!

We are currently looking for two new players to join in an ongoing campaign.

We are playing a sightly modified version of Unisystem, a really simple system: set In a Steampunk/Furry/Swashbuckling setting. It is open to anyone and everyone, unless of course you don't like furry characters, primitive firearms and/or piracy. The date for the first session is tentatively set for Tuesday 20th of may. This is a very flexible date and the exact time and game day will be discussed with the campaign players.

The PCs will be the crew of an "independent" airship (The Crimson Thorn) which is number one in the most-wanted list. The reason for said bounty is a mix of pirate-related activities and resistance against the authoritarian regime. (Pretty standard stuff, huh?) The specific details will be fleshed out together with the crew.

This game is open to new and old players alike, I just kindly ask for an open mind. If you need information and rules we will happily provide them, sicne the system is really simpe it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to have you set up and ready.

We are also playing with a "Fun trumps rulebook" mindset, that means that I will bend or break rules if I think that will make the game more enjoyable for everyone and/or simplifies things. (e.g. Look at the first question in the faq)

In general I would suggest that you guys stick to the core classes, unless you already have a bit of experience with the game and with the class you are picking. (I won´t babysit your character) Also, the "gunslinger" class is a bit tricky, so if you want that kind of character, let me know and we will work something out without making it overly complicated for you.

F.A.Q.

How furry is "furry" and how does it affect the game in practical terms?

It basically means that we are throwing away all the races in the playbooks and replacing them with anthropomorphic animal races.

Aside from that, how much you want to take advantage of the furry setting is up to you, I wont force or restrict anything unless its an extreme case. (If you forget your characters are anthro I´m gonna throw hell on you so you remember that your coats are flammable)

Does "steampunk" mean I can be a half-cyborg half-mutant-rat sparkling vampire with a laser eye and machine guns instead of shoulders?

No, it doesn't. Think "punk" before "steam". I'm ok if you want to give your character a prosthetic mechanical arm, or leg, or some weird mutation. But not all of them at the same time. You would have died twice due to medical complications. The in-game implications of each will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Also keep in mind its a low-tech (very simple firearms) low-magic (magic is rare) setting, so having a prosthetic limb or being a skillful sorcerer will draw attention, and you must be able to roleplay along with that. If you do nothing when priests deny you from entering a temple because of your magic, I´m taking your magic away from you.

I want to play a lizard-man and/or a snake-girl, is that cool?

Yeah, furry and scaly fall on the same category, but again you MUST be willing to roleplay what you are choosing to be. Keep in mind that the majority of the population are anthropomorphic mammals, so a lamia-like creature is going to draw attention. (And you better have a damn good background story for her)

Wait, background stories? Oh shit. How RP-heavy is this campaign?

If you want to play a cookie-cutter dungeon crawl, there is that big blue "Looking for group" button up there. Still here? Cool.

I'm not going to punish the lack of roleplay (unless its extreme, in which case I don't know why you are still reading this) but rather reward good roleplaying. For example: If you are playing an anthro-dog and growl whenever combat starts or instead of "perception" rolls you roll "smelling", you are getting a big chunk of extra xp. (and probably a roll bonus)

The whole reason I´m taking the time to allow you guys to do and be whatever you want and rather giving you case-by-case assistance, is because I want you to feel the most comfortable you can with your characters. However if we spend three days working on your Lizard-man-renegade-sorcerer-capitan-of-the-ship-with-a-machinegun-arm and you just play it like an elven wizard, you are going to be politely asked to leave the campaign and/or reroll your character. You have been warned. Don´t bite more than you can swallow.

Ok, cool. Then I want to play a lizard-man that eats babies and swallows souls. And im going to roleplay the hell out of those babies. Is that cool?

No. Think "punk" not "morbid". I'm ok if you want your character to have a substance addiction or if you want her to be haunted by the memories of a murder past. But Im not gonna allow graphical depictions of extremely morbid or extremely violent behavior during the course of the game. For example: I wont allow your lizard-man to devour the corpses of your enemies. No discussion about this kind of thing.

Ok then, I want to have a sex-addicted snake-woman, is that cool?

First, remind me to give you the number a really good therapist after the game, ok? Second: This is not a game with an erotic focus so and I will not allow it to become such. However, I'm gonna be more lax about the whole erotic/sexual thing. So, you can´t be sex-addicted but I´m not gonna intervene if players take roleplay encounters with a bit of eroticism. Unless of course you make me or another player uncomfortable, in which case I will stop it and you will get a private message after the game.

Sounds cool. Anything else I should know?

Yes. Please be punctual and please do your homework. You have all the material you need in the SRD and you have plenty of time to ask questions and get help in the making of you character. If you come to first session (or any session for that matter) without a character, I´m sorry but I'm not delaying everyone else for you. (Unless, of course, ALL of the players decide that they would like first session to be a character-making session, which is a great idea)

Which gets me to the second point. I know we all have real lives, but please do your best to be on time for every session.

THIS IS A REGULAR CAMPAIGN, PLAYED WEEKLY. So if you wont be here every week, please refrain from joining us. Also I´m using a semi-open table, that means that new players will be able to join us if our numbers dwindle, but with a few restrictions to avoid disturbing the storyline.

I do use the Roll20 calendar and timers, so you can always check them to know at what time to show up. If you show up once at mid-session, no problem. Twice, I'm probably gonna chat you up to know if you have some other obligation (in which case its cool if you always show up at the same time). But if you make a habit of it, for no real reason. I'm taking you out to the campaign.

Internet furries, are serious business.

Finally! If you have any further questions feel free to post them down below. And I´ll see you guys at the table.

GM Josh.
