New Recruitment Wave (5/3/2019): A couple of players are leaving the group and I'm looking for replacements. The current party is 5th level and is composed of: A tsundere Half-Dragon Barbarian, a fancy human wizard, and a strangely tolerant Oath Domain Dwarf Cleric.
Please write your character concept in a few sentences, we can work on the backstory together. Characters MUST have a good reason to be in gravesford or otherwise care about the wellbeing/state of the county/village/people. Not to say strange wanderers aren't welcome, though.
Important: We enjoy heavy RP, especially in text in between sessions. We prefer players who enjoy this form. This is a homebrew world. Some things do not work according to the default DND setting.
BEFORE YOU APPLY: CHECK THE HOUSERULE SECTION
Few other nations can claim the sort of stubborn pride the people of the Hill Kingdoms have towards their land. This collection of baronies and small kingdoms, has an ever changing web of alliancies and emnities that would make most historians balk at the task of recording all of it. Peasants seldom remember the name of what lord they pay taxes to (Unless they are expecially kind or cruel). Yet, they'd sooner swear by their lord leige than their god. Unless, however, they are speaking to foreigners, when they all suddenly become united in their pride and fierce desire for independence from foreign kingdoms and empires. Our story begins in the village of Gravesford.
Genre: Classic Fantasy + Domain management + Dash of swords and sorcery
Politics: Low-Medium
Roleplaying: Medium
Combat/Tactics: Medium
System: D&D 5th edition. Matt Coleville's Strongholds will be used.
Player Buy-in: The players are adventurers in the world of Aeterna. I have a preference for good aligned characters, but I can be convinced to allow evil characters. The campaign will largly be centered in and around the Hill Kingdoms. The region is not well developed yet in the world, and I am very happy to allow my players to fill in the blanks themselves. The building/management of an estate (keep, wizard tower, etc etc), will be a main feature of this campaign.
My roleplaying style leans on storytelling. I enjoy method acting and I enjoy my players getting into their characters deeply. I think bleed, within reason, is a good thing (it means you care!). The more you give me as a player, the more I give back. Otherwise, you'll have to be content to sit back and enjoy whatever plot I cook up for you. I roll everything in the open and make use of fate rolls (d100, high is good). My combats are tactical and terrain will very often be a factor. It will be hard, and I'll play enemies in a way that makes sense, which means they'll be trying to win. You must trust that I'm not trying to kill you (As that will end the story and that sucks for everyone), but if you make mistakes or the dice just roll that way, then so be it.
This game is welcoming to new players and is LGBTQ+ friendly. However, the game WILL include mature themes, so you must be at least 16 years old to apply. Please do not lie about it. I encourage people to befriend each other and talk about the game outside of the session time. I am a stickler for attendance. Tardy or inconsistent attendance puts players at risk of being booted from the game. The same is for players who display inappropriate behavior (do not be a dick).
Before you apply, check the houserule section. I'm hoping to select the players by the end of the year, and start playing on the 5th of January.
We will use Discord for the game voice chat and logistics.
