Red Hand of Doom

Introduction

The Wyrmsmoke Mountains shook with the thunder of ten thousand screaming hobgoblin soldiers. From the phalanx emerged a single champion. One by one the tribes fell silent as the warlord rose up, red scales gleaming along his shoulders, horns swept back from his head. A hundred bright yellow banners stood beneath him, each marked with a great red hand. He stood upon a precipice and raised his arms. “I am Azarr Kul, Son of the Dragon!” the warlord bellowed. “Hear me! Tomorrow we march to war!”

Red Hand of Doom is a Dungeons & Dragons adventure designed for characters of levels 5—12. Confronted with the relentless advance of Azurr Kul’s horde, the characters must undertake vital missions to influence the outcome of the war. Can they shatter the armies of the enemy, or will Azarr Kul’s dreams rain destruction upon the human lands?

Background for me as a DM:

I am an experienced Dungeon master with over 11.000 hours in Roll20 and more than 15 years of DMing experience. Being aware that a pay-to-play game needs to be worth its money, I run the game with the clear intention to exceed the players expectations. It goes without saying that all of the sessions are well prepared, usually for each of the campaigns I have multiple thousand of immersive handouts, descriptions and background information. The total world spans about 150 maps, about 500 macros for combat as well as carefully created manual content. The in-game content in many cases is pixel perfect to offer a good immersion.

In order to give you an overview, here are some examples of what it can look like:

Timing:

I would offer to run the campaign on Sundays, my current timezone is Central US Time (CDT), which is (CET -7). I am happy to discuss about starting and ending time, each session will at least last 3-4 hours per week.

The campaign:

The plot of Red Hand of Doom follows a group of adventurers who have entered the Elsir Vale, a thinly populated frontier region. The party discovers a massive hobgoblin horde that is fanatically devoted to the dark goddess Tiamat and led by the charismatic half-dragon warlord Azarr Kul. To stop the horde, players have to muster the inhabitants of the Vale, battle hobgoblins, giants and dragons, and defeat an overwhelming enemy.

Roleplay, Rules, Combat:

Depending on your interest, I usually tend to offer immersive in-game options to follow a mix of roleplaying and combat. Since I enjoy both, it often ends up to be equally distributed. I am very rule knowledgeable and therefore playing by the rules will be no problem (I tend to give less experienced players a breakdown of their options and likely consequences).
A core trait of all my scenarios is that actions have consequences, no matter what you decide, you will see an impact in the game world.

Character Creation:

  • Stats: Standard Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10)
  • Traits: none
  • Level Buyoff: none
  • Templates / LA Races: none
  • Multiclassing penalty: none
  • Starting Level: 5
  • Gold: 9.000gp, no single item for more than 50% of this value

House rules:

I usually do not use houserules, as in my experience most of the players are reasonably fine with the rules as written content. If the group collectively has wishes to modify parts of the system, I have a lot of experience in how to do that. As for now, I intend to provide the purest DnD 3.5 (Pathfinder compatible) experience to the players.

How to apply:

This campaign is looking for long term motivated players. Of course, playing a test session to see if this is the right thing for you is no problem at all. Generally speaking though, if I start the campaign, I would want to do it with the motivation to play regularly and for a longer period. So if you are looking for a reliable long-term campaign, this one would be for you.

Please post in this topic if you are interested in the campaign and want to apply. I appreciate if you use following format.
