It's been five years since the heroes of Vox Machina helped end the threat of the Chroma Conclave. Much of Tal'Dorei has returned to its former prosperity, though many old wounds are still visible upon Tal'Dorei's fair skin. People from all walks have their daily struggles, some decidedly more difficult than others. The Council of Tal'Dorei does their best to administer to the land, and for the most part succeeds. But there are always those who toil, and always those who will take advantage.
The Brass Dragon Circus and Traveling Sideshow, founded about four years ago, travels the length and breadth of Tal'Dorei. Run by the enigmatic Ringmaster and his wife Brianna, the circus brings entertainment and diversion to the people where it visits, all for a very reasonable price. The circus' performers are highly talented and the sideshow is always good for some good, (mostly) clean fun.
But there is more to the circus than meets the eye...
Unknown to the majority, the Circus' true purpose and source of revenue are the jobs its people do outside of the circus. Ringmaster uses the cover of a traveling show to take his circus where it needs to go, and his people do the jobs they're hired to do. There are standards; these aren't common thugs. No assassination or murder. No Enforcer work. No strike-breaking. No exploitation of the common people. No kidnap for ransom. The jobs aren't always legal, but there's a line Ringmaster won't cross.
The heroes have recently learned a hidden truth of their circus, and their current jobs in some way reflect this new truth.
