Explore subterranean labyrinths! Plunder hoards of treasure! Battle legendary monsters!
Welcome to The Lost Mine - a campaign designed to let new (or nearly new) Dungeons & Dragons fifth edition players to learn and play in a friendly and welcoming setting, using the Lost Mine of Phandelver introductory adventure.
Who am I
My name is Ed, a long time D&D player, and I've been a Dungeon Master (DM) in a lot of Campaigns in my time. They range from small games, adventuring to save a local farmer’s daughter, to world shattering conflicts with characters battling evil Gods for the fate of the world. I have run official campaigns published by Wizards of the Coast and games in my own setting (The Shattered Land of Keladorn), which I spend a lot of my free time building. Outside being a massive D&D nerd and general dork I play plenty of video games, read a lot of books (and sometimes go outside, but don’t tell anyone). Needless to say, I’ve got plenty of experience to help me run an engaging adventure for you. (Also, I’m very British).
I’m going to be running the Lost Mine of Phandelver, the introductory adventure for D&D 5e. It’s aimed at people new to D&D, and will help ease you into playing. However, it doesn't mean it’s going to be a walkover, and you’ll meet plenty of challenges to overcome as a group before the adventure is done. It’s also set in the default world of D&D 5e, Faerûn (AKA The Forgotten Realms), specifically the Sword Coast. This will also hopefully get you familiar with this setting, in case you move on to another campaign set in the same fantasy setting. Once this adventure is done we can check in to see if people want to remain a group, or want to break up and apply for more advanced games out there in the wider world.
Who can join
this game is aimed at new players, people who’ve either never played D&D or who’ve only played a very small amount before, and who want to learn how to play without being under pressure from more experienced fellow players. You don’t need to know the rules by heart, or even have bought the Players Handbook, as I will be taking everyone through the rules step by step as we go. You also won’t need to think up a character first, we’ll do that as a group, and I have a supply of pre-made characters if you are unsure what to play as. Our pace will be as fast as the slowest person, and everyone will be given a chance to grasp the rules as we go.
All that I ask from everyone is to turn up with a positive attitude and a desire to both learn and play together, and to give everyone a chance to love the game. It will require a small time commitment to attend (most sessions will be three to four hours long) and we can review the game as we go to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. The time and day are set, so unfortunately if you can’t make that time then you won’t be able to make it into this game. I'm also looking for people who are willing to engage and progress a story, and not just run around setting fire to famers fields (cue the torches and pitchforks).
Finally, this is a game for all people, and any sort of bigotry, sexism, racism or any other -ism won’t be accepted from the players, and any players exhibiting this behavior may be kicked from the game with limited/no warning.
This is a voice game, though we can use video if everyone wants that. I can't accept text only players. We will be using Discord, Skype or the Roll 20 chat function, whatever works for everyone.
There is an application thread below, please use the template to apply, and you can ask any questions either campaign or technical in the thread below that.
We'll send a message to this Game's GM asking their permission to let you join the game. If you want, you can include a brief message below as well:
