A D&D 5e Adventure; The Westlands

Intro
Far to the uncivilized west coast of the continent of Aitias lies the Westlands. The Westlands is a place where the civilized men (Humans, Dwarves, Halflings.) struggle to conquer their own piece of land. Magic is nothing but witchery to these men. In the small cities and towns the civilized men struggle to fight the encroaching dangers of the monsters which wield this magic. To the north lies the Kingdom of Efora a land carved out by the Barbarian King Landris 120 years ago. After landris’ death his heirs fight to rule Efora. Beyond the small Kingdom of Efora lives a land of savagery and chaos. Goblinoids enslave men and women who have found their way into their lands forcing them to mine in the crude caves filled with gold and silver. The great elven kingdoms from the ancient days are now ruins in the great forests. Elves wander the forests living in small villages struggling to uphold their heritage that civilized men disown. Opportunity runs wild for anyone looking to adventure in this land to the west. It is time for a group of men and women to rise and reap the opportunity. Who are you?

Races
Humans are the majority race in the civilized lands. They follow all kinds of paths whether it be in the civilized land or not. Some live their lives as simple farmers while others may be living in the wilderness as bandits. Humans come from all walks of life.

Dwarves live as miners or blacksmiths in the civilized lands. Their ancient brothers the Olgar carved out beautiful kingdoms in the mountains but dwarves are but relatives to this mystical race. Life is hard for the dwarf. They lack the acceptance from humans as well as the monstrous races of the wilderness. The richest dwarves are those that serve in armies or militias for humans using their strength and wisdom in the battlefield. The majority of dwarves live in small mining towns working their life away for the humans of The Westlands.

Halfings are a simple folk. They live on the outskirts of towns or cities as poor folk doing odd jobs to survive. Some take on the profession of farm hands for humans in small agricultural lands. Some may even gain enough money to have a farm of their own but it is rare. Some halflings leave the civilized lands to live in the forests contributing to the villages of the elves.

Goblins are a monstrous race. They are the bottom of the food chain for goblinoids. Most serve Hobgoblins in their armies as the front line. Failed goblins end up as slaves working alongside the captured civilized men. It is a hard life for goblins due to their numbers. There is too many of them for one to stand out over the other. Some leave the lands of goblinoids to make tribes where they practice the magic learned from the elves of yore.

Elves and Half-Elves live the most peaceful life out of the races. They hide away in the large forests upholding their culture that died long ago. Most serve as hunters and gatherers in the forest. Some Elves (Or Half-Elves) may have recovered magical tomes from their old civilization practicing magic. Elves (Or Half-Elves) that practice magic are usually the highest ranking in their villages being celebrated by their fellow elves. Some elves found themselves protecting the forest as druids living to uphold the wilderness. Recently elves have begun to move into the civilized lands. Though discriminated against by the civilized races they have married into some royal houses finding power this way.

Orcs and Half-Orcs live as the strongest most powerful races. They serve in armies for the uncivilized races or working as mercenaries in the civilized lands. Though discriminated against by most races it is out of fear of their strength. Some Orcs (Or Half-Orcs) have founded simple towns in the uncivilized lands where they hone honorable professions such as farming, blacksmithing, tailoring, etc.

Tieflings are the devil-touched humans. These creatures are almost always killed at birth by their parents in fear of the devil that lurks within them. Tieflings are misunderstood though they are actually not as evil as everyone thinks. They are intelligent creatures that are far and few between. Sometimes accepted by elven villages they do have the opportunity to thrive. Most of the time Tieflings are rejected by anyone who has the mind to understand what they are.

Hobgoblins rule with an iron fist. These monstrosities have created small lands across the uncivilized wilderness building towns based on their trade of gold and silver from their mines. Hobgoblins enslave men and women forcing them to work for no pay the only reward is not being tortured and killed. Most races are scared of the hobgoblins. Only the most confident man of the civilized lands wouldn’t run when they saw one.

Dragonborn are a race of magical beings blessed by the ancient dragons. Long ago the dragonborns lived with the great nations of elves that once walked the earth but once the fall of that civilization the dragonborns fell aswell. Dragonborns have retreated to the mountains of the Westlands living with the kobolds in harmony hiding away from most of civilization. Occasionally dragonborns may leave their mountain homes to find a way in the westlands. Most are rejected in society though and find little meaning to be out of their mountain homes.

Side Note
All races from PHB (Except gnomes) are allowed as well as any from Volos guide. If you have any questions about races not posted above go ahead and DM me and I can give you lore about them.

Classes
Most classes are allowed except for the artificer in this world. Keep in mind that magic is frowned about in the civilized lands. There are no wizard colleges nor churches in the civilized lands. If you choose to be a wizard or some sort of divine class then keep that in mind. They most likely learned and honed their skills on their own learning from books they found in ruins. Guns and Railroads do exist to the east so it would be possible to be a gunslinger https://www.dndbeyond.com/subclasses/gunslinger

Deities
As most characters would not have knowledge of the deities I will not write too much about them. If you have questions about the deities that exist in the world please DM me.

This will be a mainly adventured based campaign. What this means is you will have the right choose to do as you please and make your mark on this world.
