Currently our party is a Drunken Monk, a Bard, a Warlock (Pact of the Blade), and a Conquest Paladin. They are 11th level. We have completed the titular tomb and are soon moving to Curse of Strahd, but the game continues on until we get there!.
New Players Welcome!!!
You will be creating a character of 10th level. I am more than happy to help you select a race, class, or anything else you may have difficulty crafting on your own. That is what I am here for; to be your guide through an amazing game and Adventure!
Why Play with Me?
Because DMs can be hard to come by and you want to play D&D! I have been DMing in 5th edition for over 5 years now, I have a background in theatre and improvisation, and I really love building a story, characters, and a world (especially within Faerun and Barovia, from WotC's books)
Not only that, but I have implemented a number of APIs and Macros that make running the game simple and fun! Check the player map without the DM dragging you there, dynamic lighting, with soundtracks and a series of APIs that will keep even the mundane aspects of the game feeling magical!
Why pay to play?
Because then you will play! You are less likely to flake, and I will absolutely not! Because it allows me to purchase the resources I need to run your game, including tokens and D&D books. It also allows me to dedicate more time to integrate your backstory into the world (though your backstory may not be relevant in the Jungles of Chult), as well as to prepare everything in full.
Difficulty
Tomb of Annihilation is known to be a difficult campaign in terms of the combat. I actively encourage my players to utilize tactics and strategies to deal with enemies that are more powerful than they are. Roleplaying will reap great rewards, whilst Murderhoboing will cause you to gain new enemies, thus making the game harder to play.
While I am not trying to kill your characters, I suggest you become comfortable with the idea of your character dying. Playing foolishly (which is to say, having your characters act foolishly) will likely get them killed. Playing with awareness and intelligence will keep you alive.
What is Tomb of Annihilation?
Well...
For the past several days, the talk of the streets and taverns has all been about the so-called death curse: a wasting disease afflicting everyone who’s ever been raised from the dead. Victims grow thinner and weaker each day, slowly but steadily sliding toward the death they once denied. When they finally succumb, they can’t be raised — and neither can anyone else, regardless of whether they’ve ever received that miracle in the past.
Temples and scholars of divine magic are at a loss to explain a curse that has affected the entire region, and possibly the entire world.
It has been 40 days since the withering curse took hold...
The game takes place in the rain forests of Chult, a peninsula in the south west of Faerun. Feel free to ask me questions about the setting, or utilize the extensive Forgotten Realms wiki available over the internet!
Player Expectations
Be able to get along with different types of people and the way they play their characters.
-- I'm neither trying to run an evil campaign, nor a campaign where players betray and steal from one another.
Be willing to RP your character. I will shine the spot light on every character now and then each session.
Have headphones and a mic set up. Having feed back distracts from the game. Please wear a set of headphones. If your computer mic is poor, purchase a cheap peripheral one. I will be broadcasting my video so you all can see me. I get a much better feel for your character when I can see you too, though voice only is fine.
Safe Space. This is an LGBTQ+ friendly space. I have had to remove a player for inappropriate comments and I will not tolerate it. If you have any specific triggers, feel free to private message me so I can be sure that you aren't triggered in the game. D&D is meant to be fun, not a way to recall and confront trauma; I expect my players to abide the no-go subjects that are defined by their fellow party members.
DM Expectations
I will run the game Rules as Written, with a few small changes allowing easier potion use and a stronger beast for the Beastmaster's animal companion. If I am running something that you know isn't correct, feel free to DM me in Discord during the game, and I will keep that in mind going forward! That being said, just because a monster looks, acts, and has similar abilities to one in the Monster Manual doesn't mean it will be 100% the same as the written stat block.
I will be prompt. The game always will start at the listed time, and I will always poll the table 12-48 hours before the game begins to determine if we have enough of the party to play!
The game will run about 3 to 4 hours. We will usually have a 10-15 minute break in the middle there, though exactly when will shift from session to session (often depending on when my dog starts asking to go for a walk)
Current Player Quotes
"Jack's voice work really brings his non-player characters to life, which makes killing them all the more satisfying."
"Jack indulged me in all my weird bullshit while managing to keep the game on track"
“Jack gave me the confidence to play my character in real life.”
"Jack helped introduce me into a hobby that has very quickly consumed my life, taking me from a novice to running my own games comfortably." Also "#DMGoals"
"Jack, our DM God, is best described as someone who is very professional, but also doesn’t take himself too seriously. I like that. He knows the rules, he knows how and when to bend them for the sake of fun, he knows how to help people create, evolve, and develop their characters - even the noobs like me. He is patient and responsive. He is pretty good at funny voices and noises for the characters he portrays - even if 90% of the people he creates and role plays are from the Irish country side [DM Note: only 55% of the time]... He genuinely enjoys DMing - it’s his job. Don’t we all wish we loved our jobs? Jack does."
