Escape the Neverwinter Wood

“Ah, yes yes, please, do come in!” An aged gnome excitedly greets you, welcoming you into his shop. You look around and see various decorations littered along the walls and on any available surface bordering the macabre. There is no mistaking that this is the man who had put a notice up seeking for adventurers to venture into the Neverwinter Woods to bring back dark fey creatures for further study.

There other individuals already here before you, some looking uncomfortable, others looking completely unperturbed by the various preserved creatures in glass paneling on the walls and on the furniture. You take the last available seat on one of the settees, the gnome grinning as he hands you a cup of tea, his thin mustache pointing upwards from his ecstatic expression. He then takes his place at the end of the two sofas which face each other, and you note a tall elven man in the background, looking quite the opposite to the greying gnome, leaning with his arms crossed in front of his chest against a window, not bothering to greet you or any of the other adventurers you are surrounded by.

“Well, I think that is everyone,” The compact gentlemen begins, clapping his hands together. “Now, all of you read the letter I placed outside of the Driftwood Tavern, yes?” He receives nods, a grunt from one or two of the adventurers. “Good, good. Then you know my name to be Boken Albarite, but you can call me Okki if you so choose to. This man,” He begins, waving a hand backwards in the general direction of the elf, “is Valac Silverthorn. He shall be your guide as you make your way deep into Neverwinter Wood to collect dark fey creatures for me.”

Hello, and welcome to my Escape the Neverwinter Wood one-shot! My name is Kris and I will be DMing for you all in what will be my very first time DMing. This will be a relatively simple, darker-oriented one-shot to get my feet wet, and hopefully give everyone involved a fun time with D&D.

Now, as you may have gathered from the little excerpt above, the party will be journeying into Neverwinter Wood to collect various specimens for Mr. Albarite, an eccentric researcher who is quite enthusiastic in finding how dark fey work and how they can best be cleared out of the forest to allow for safe passage and exploration. Valac Silverthorn will be the party’s guide through this.

All levels of experience are more than welcomed to my one-shot! I’ve personally only been playing for half a year or so, but I am extremely excited to start dming, so I figured running a few one-shots would be a great way to get familiar with the concept of leading the adventure from behind a DM screen. For any brand new players, I’ll gladly help you figure out the controls of roll20 and D&D in general for this one-shot.
