==========================================================================
In the veil beyond the limits of perception, there exists a multiverse that inhabits a countless amount of worlds. Forgotten realms, entire cities spanning entire planes, and shards of fragmented worlds coming together to make something new. Whatever dreams may forge, it exists within this gathering of magic. Some creatures even exist outside of the parallax of this multiverse, able to walk among the planes and see what these different worlds have to offer.
You are not one of those creatures.
You are but one individual on the roaming plane of Shandalar. Your world's magic is not like any other, as any ol' person or woodlawn beast can use or is infused with said sorcery. Although much interplanar influence has played a part in Shandalar's present day, much of that may be lost on you as the plane is a diverse paradise filled with races of all shapes and sizes. Most folk are too preoccupied to the look at the bigger picture, and even then the plane's guardian seems very good at keeping much of the riffraff out.
She did, at least, for a time. An old evil seems to be creeping it's way into things. A walker of the planes, who's magic could tear the fabric of Shandalar's reality apart.
...Good thing this incarnation of The Guardian likes to cheat.
This is a homebrew Dungeons and Dragons 5e campaign VERY LOOSELY based off of the Magic: The Gathering setting 'Shandalar', with much else of MTG (and D&D)'s gubbins thrown in. We're looking for a player (or two) to join those already on this bizarre adventure, traveling the world to grow stronger to fight an ultimate evil.
Due to a previous player leaving for a spell, their character is also on the table to be played. Modifications to said character can be discussed, as said character has a very small bit of plot relevance.
General Game Flotsam
Table rules
- Don't be a dick.
- Players new to D&D 5e are welcome. Veterans of 5e and Pathfinder won't be turned away though.
- People from all walks of life are welcome. Especially LGBTQ+etc people, as the GM is amongst that crowd.
- The game has mature themes, but is SFW.
- 'Evil' and/or chaotic characters are allowed, but a player must prove they're able to handle to such without being a pest.
Details
- Game will start around 2AM EST (7AM GMT). A lot of people gloss over this point, and I will be ignoring anyone who does.
- Game length will be 3 hours at least, lasting as long as it needs to.
- This is a rather high powered, high magical campaign, due to the nature of the setting (one of Magic: The Gathering's most magically enriched settings).
- The game is pretty travel heavy, so downtime activities and role play are center stage. Combat, however, does happen.
- At the moment, there are 4 players. Shooting for 5 total, with 6 as a special case (this includes the character in need of another player). The extra players are friends of players who and/or guests.
Character Creation
- Characters are currently level 3. Leveling is handled through milestone.
- Due to this being a high power campaign, character creation takes this into account. To that end:
- Stats are rolled via discord bot, and is 4d6DTL with a sidebar: Totaled ability score #'s can't be below 75. A free reroll is allowed, and taking rolls with a single stat below 10 is encouraged. This is done for a reason.
- HP per level (after level 1 of course) is rolled, and 1's are free to be rerolled. The average can be taken if that is desired.
- Custom background features are allowed. Guild spell lists from the Ravnican Backgrounds are allowed, provided a suitable in-character reason to have them.
- Characters receive a free feat at level 1. 'Lucky' is not allowed.
- Reflavoring is allowed, as per J.Craw's words.
- If your race is not available in the content section, and/or you want to do more than just reflavor another race, or you're a race not native to Shandalar or even MTG, it is entirely possible/viable to homebrew a race using set rules. Long as you're willing to discuss it, and the party is fine with it.
- Any new player will go through a session 0 that will help bring them up to speed, as well as give them an example of how the game will be run and what they'll be getting into. All players in this game have had one.
Sourcebooks and Dis/allowed Content
- Includes almost everything printed by Wizards (including most UA), and Homebrew from select sources that are widely trusted (such as Critical Role). This can be expanded upon request, BUT all/every homebrew addition is ran by the current party playing first.
Allowed Content
- All WotC sourcebooks and what lies therein.
- Planeshift content.(Amonkhet, Dominaria, Innistrad, Ixalan, Kaladesh, and Zendikar). It is an MTG setting, after all.
- All Unearthed Arcana, unless listed below. UA versions of classes/races are allowed to be used in the stead of printed material (such as the Waterborne Minotaur, The Circle of Twilight, The Revised Ranger, etc).
- Trusted Homebrew. Including...
- All Critical Role Content. Including the Blood Hunter and the old Gunslinger
- Kibbles' (from /r/UnearthedArcana) various takes on classes
- Various creations from D&DBeyond's homebrew section. The only caveat here being it must be voted up substantially and not break the game.
- Too much list, so asking in private is allowed.
Disallowed Content
- Mystics (from either UA)
- This class is overtuned, even for this game. I will not allow it, and I will not budge on this.
- Feats for Skills
- These are feats from 4e that were roughly translated up. While not bad, their ceilings of balance are so wildly apart that they make things too unpredictable.

DM Cliffnotes
- I'm not a Killer DM. Doesn't mean I won't challenge you.
- I abide by the Rule of Cool / "You can certainly try" school of DMing. RAW supercedes most table arguements, but at the end of the day we're all here to have fun. Deaths included.
- Long as I have the right to shut down most that guy-isms, we'll get along fine.
- I like to experiment. If I go too far, though, let me know.
- This game has some/many QoL houserules. More will be stated once a player (or 2) is chosen.
