Welcome to RuneQuest and Glorantha
First, a bit about the system. RuneQuest:Roleplaying in Glorantha is the latest version of RuneQuest, first published by Chaosium in 1978. The current edition is the fourth produced by Chaosium.
Unlike many other FRPGs, RuneQuest has no character classes or levels. Your character will have some family history that sets your place in the world, a number of cultural and occupational skills, and is a member of a cult worshiping one of several possible gods.
In RuneQuest:
Each of your skills has a certain percentage chance of success. Roll less than or equal to that on a D100, and you succeed. Roll very low, and you can get a higher quality success.
Armor doesn't make you harder to hit, it reduces the damage done to you.
Uses a hit location system. A lot of damage to a critical location can kill you, even though you have hit points left. A little damage to each of several locations can kill you, even though no single location is that badly damaged.
EVERYONE has some magic.
Every combat can be deadly.
We’ll go over more of the game system before we start play. For now, let’s turn to the setting for this adventure.
The party is a group of adventurers based in the City of Clearwine, the seat of the Colymar tribe, one of the tribes of the Kingdom of Sartar. Until last Earth Season( roughly, autumn) , Sartar was ruled by the Lunar Empire, which conquered them many years ago. At that time, when the Lunar priests and rulers were involved in a magic ritual to seal their rule over Sartar, Sartarite priests and mages performed their own ritual, and summoned a great True Dragon, kilometers in length. The True Dragon consumed most of the Lunars at their ritual, including a large part of their military forces in the area. With the Lunar forces crushed, the Sartarites have thrown out the remainder, and the tribes have reclaimed their freedom.
However, for many years what held the Sartarites together has been the opposition to the Lunar Empire. With them gone, old rivalries have risen again. And while the Lunar puppet that held the throne in Boldhome( capital of Sartar ) has been cast out, Kallyr Starbrow, who has claimed the title of Prince of Sartar, lies wounded from a failed HeroQuest, and shows no sign of recovery. The tribes of Sartar are still striving for unity. Queen Leika of the Colymar, who barely acknowledges Kallyr Starbrow as Prince, is seeking to rally clans and nearby tribes under her name.
Still, life goes on. You have all heard of an Issaries merchant looking for guards for a caravan he is taking into Prax. For various reasons, you have all decided to take him up on that offer. You're told it should be a week there, and a week back. He is carrying good
This will be a one-shot game. The scenario presented should at least give you the possibility of seeing all RuneQuest has to offer. Once the scenario is completed, the game will be over. I expect 1 or 2 sessions to complete the scenario.
