Gardens of Fog

A dear friend lies stricken, a prisoner in their own mind. Local healers are baffled, unable to provide aid, and without intervention your companion is surely lost. Steel yourself, enter the realm of the mind and face the struggles within.

Rules & Expectations:
1) Characters are made at dndbeyond.com using the main resources. Players are level 3 made from original content on the website.
2) Please be courteous and respectful.
3) Voice required (Video preferred)
4) We generally stream our games.
5) This is a shared experience, and I will actively work as the DM to make sure one person does not hog all of the game time.
6) Have your character made by the beginning of the session. If you are new and would like help, I generally try to show up an hour before hand to set everything up.
7) If we would like to start by 6PM, I would encourage everyone to show up by 5:30PM.
8) If you are not present by 5:45PM, I will open spots to present players in the queue.

This Dungeons & Dragons adventure module, the proceeds of which benefit Take This (TakeThis.org). Since our founding in 2012, the mission of Take This has been to educate people about mental health, as well as destigmatize mental illness, because it is far more common than most of us realize. The CDC estimates a 1-in-4 lifetime diagnosis rate for mental illness in the US. Diagnoses are common, yet people with serious mental health challenges are often viewed as violent and dangerous—at best worthy of pity, but at worst shunned. Media portrayals, especially in games, frequently reinforce this. My colleague Dr. Kelli Dunlap (who, along with Drs. Sarah Hays and Rachel Kowert, helped review this module) frequently asks, “Has your character ever woken up in an asylum or psychiatric hospital and had something good happen to them? Probably not.” Those struggling with mental health challenges frequently remain silent because they fear being labelled as “crazy” or “broken.” The reality is that those suffering from mental illness are overall less likely to be violent towards others and more likely to be victims themselves. The overwhelming majority of people with mental health diagnoses will lead productive and engaged lives, despite their struggles. This is so different that what we see in media!
This adventure was designed to turn some stereotypes on their head. While we take artistic license with the cause of the afflictions encountered, there are messages we endeavor to make clear about those who struggle with mental health challenges:
• They come from all walks of life.
• There is always hope for improvement.
• Their struggles are not their fault.
• They are worthy of our compassion and understanding,
not pity.
• Empathy and validation are often a more effective tool
to help others than reassurance and problem
