Eberron - Oracle of War (Salvagers)

It's just a few years after “The Last War,” a century-long civil war that divided the continent and shattered a grand kingdom. Although a tenuous peace exists, the conflicts, anger, and pain of the long war remain as nations old and new, along with “dragonmarked houses” that exist much like magical megacorporations, angle for advantages and prepare for war to break out once more.

Near the end of the War, the nation of Cyre was demolished in a cataclysmic event known as the Day of Mourning. What remains of Cyre is now called the Mournland, a once-powerful kingdom now turned into a postapocalyptic magical wasteland. Only the foolhardy and desperate venture into that place. . .

You are one of those fools. An outpost called Salvation has sprung up on the edge of the Mournland, populated by desperate Scavengers hoping to make money by looting valuable items from Cyre’s smoking remains: an area they call the Gray. Scavengers join together to form Salvage Crews that brave the unpredictable and often deadly landscape of the Mournland. Some work for powerful patrons, others work for salvage brokers, and still others work for themselves.

Quick Summary

Game: D&D 5E, Eberron setting
Open Slots: 2 (3 are filled; game has not started yet)
Experience: Any and all are welcome, from D&D newbies to experienced grunts. As long as you’re enthusiastic about D&D, interested in collaborating with others to tell a great story, and just as intrigued by exploring post-apocalyptic ruins as you are about exploring a character’s personal story, we want you.
Time: 1-2 Mondays per month at 6:00PM EST. (Each adventure--think of it like an episode in the larger story--takes approximately 3-4 hours). The precise date will vary monthly based on players’ best availability and is not necessarily the date posted in this listing.
Module: We’ll be playing the Eberron: Oracle of War campaign in D&D Adventurers League format, a 20-level campaign written by acclaimed authors like M.T. Black, Will Doyle, Shawn Merwin and more. You do not need to be familiar with any of these things to apply, but see below for more details.
Game Style: Generally speaking, these adventures have a good mix of the three pillars: exploration, combat, and roleplay.
Additionally, if you want a quick overview of Eberron, check out Dndbeyond’s welcome to the setting. If you want a deeper dive, seek out the excellent Rising from the Last War sourcebook.

Please note that this game will require a payment to the Game Master at a rate of $10 USD per adventure module (approx. 3-4 hour session) paid via PayPal. Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements.

What is the Oracle of War campaign? And what is Eberron?

The Oracle of War campaign is a 20-adventure storyline in the Eberron setting that will take you from level 1 to 20: that’s 20(!) 5th edition, professionally-written D&D adventures from authors like M.T. Black, Will Doyle, Shawn Merwin and others. You don’t have to be an Eberron expert at all, just interested in exploring the setting (that’s half the fun!).

We’ll be playing Oracle of War in the Adventurers’ League format. What does that mean?

Mostly, all this means is that you’ll adhere to the Oracle of War (v2) Players’ Guide to create your character. For those unfamiliar, I’ll explain this further in our Session Zero. Essentially, you can create a character using any combo of the Player’s Handbook, the Rising from the Last War sourcebook, and Xanathar’s Guide to Everything.

Why pay for D&D?

I use the payment to recoup some of my costs of purchased adventures, player token resources, prep time, roll20 subscription, etc. I’m confident you’ll feel you’re getting your money’s worth. Payment is required no later than 24 hours before each scheduled play session. Our “Session Zero”--in which we work together to discuss and create characters--will not require payment since it's to determine player compatibility, character, and party composition.

Additionally, if you ever become dissatisfied with the game or otherwise need to leave, notify me within 24 hours of the most recently played session and I’ll gladly refund your last payment. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. There are no other refunds unless I fail to run a scheduled adventure in full.

What’s my D&D résumé?

I’m a DM with over 13 years of experience running games of assorted D&D editions (2nd through 5th) and an embarrassing number of hours running via roll20 (feel free to check my profile). I'm currently running Descent into Avernus (one home game; one on roll20), and I've previously run parts or the whole of every currently released 5E hardcover.

What do I want--and want to avoid--in players?

Your DM and current players span their mid-20s to mid-30s. Prospective players should be 18+, but more precisely, players should be mature, fun loving, and excited to play a collaborative game of D&D. In-character conflict amongst party members can be fun and interesting, but player to player racism, bullying, or other ranting or complaining will not be tolerated. Players will get one private warning for any game behavior that’s deemed detrimental to player and DM enjoyment; beyond this, they’ll be removed from the game if deemed a problem for the rest of the group.

Miscellaneous details

Discord will be used for voice, and if all players agree, we may livestream via my Twitch channel (no camera required). Finally, rules help is welcome (in private) if I make a mistake or ask, and I’m always receptive to player preferences in game style, but I'm not interested in a backseat DM. Come with the intent to have some fantasy-noir fun with like-minded souls.
