There is something not quite right with the city of Champaign, it has a dark secret. A city of murder, madness and corruption. The city pits the hunters against implacable killers of every stripe, and leads them into the grisly secret that links them all. What at first seems a case of an insane, but isolated killer expands to put the hunters at the mercy of an enemy that lives off misery, and can only be defeated by an act that could make the hunters killers on a par with the mass murderers they oppose.
The Calculator Killer is obsessed with solving an insanely complex mathematical problem. He believes that solving it will provide him with the ultimate unified theory that explains everything – time, the universe, the meaning of life, and God. The only way he can solve this problem is by murdering people selected according to a mathematical pattern, and using the results of the death such as patterns of blood spatter and the position of the body as factors in the solution. He will not stop until he is imprisoned or killed.
The campaign is very gritty (Call of Cthulu & Chill) and held in our modern world. All the players have to be affiliated with the University of Illinois in Urbana and are average joes... THAT MEANS NO hitmen, special agents, profilers, special forces, etc...
The campaign is very graphic and has a disturbing tone of the evil that men/women do.. I have actually had 2 players leave the campaign because of this. 1 player left because she did not appreciate the violence one of my villains had toward women in my campaign and the other player did not feel comfortable with me using actual crime scene photos.
I know my WOD lexicon and history... And i will not be using much of that... that includes Pentex or any other WOD theme. Don't get me wrong i might use a few things here and there, but overall the HUNTERS don't know anything about that stuff. If the players meet up with a low ranked vampire and try to attack it, odds are they will all end up dead. No one in my campaign has dragon breath shotgun rounds, a katana strapped to their backs, or a crossbow with a wooden stake configuration. THIS IS NOT BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, SUPERNATURAL, OR GRIM...
The Televison shows and Movies that influnced the style and theme of this campaign are Deliver us from Evil, Frailty, Fallen, The Rite, Stigmata, Anabelle, The First Power, The Serpent and the Rainbow, The Mothman Prophecies, the Haunting in Connecticut, The Shining, The Conjuring, Kolchek:The Night Stalker, Xfiles, Millennium, and Poltergeist: The Legacy.
This campaign is focused around serial killers, madmen, and how the forces of evil are trying to corrupt and destroy humanity one soul at a time. Now keep in mind that Vampires, Werewolves, and all that other WOD stuff do exist, but the Hunters have never seen, much less verified that these creatures exist
So the real question is? Do you rage against the darkness? Do you wish to understand or even extend mercy to it? Or do you have a new vision for humanity?
I need a copy of any character you are creating, made brand new. The only caveat I have is that you all are starting hunters and have a generic background that links your character to the University of Illinois.
To play this game you must have Discord. You have the option of just using audio, or if you want you can enable video.
These will be the source books allowed for character generation.
1) No family members are werecreatures.
2) You were never a ghoul or a vampire.
3) You aren't an awakened Mage.
4) A general background that links your character to the University of Illinois in Urbana is required and Mortals only. Merits and Flaws must be believable in regards to the concept of your character.
7) Not everyone will know each other. You will be meeting with other hunters for the first time.
I would try to create a character that is grounded in the real world. It's NOT ok to be a hitman or a CIA agent. The Heralds frown upon choosing these kind of people as their Chosen saviors of humanity. No extra experience points will be given to start off. Your points have to match the character and I usually like my players to be rounded enough that if there is a lull in the combat side of the game, that it won't kill your character in other matters (i.e investigation, dealing with other things...etc.)
If you have any questions or just need help with character creation, please let me know.
