All right everyone!
So, what is this all about? I have completed writing ~15 homebrew stories for Monster of the Week; all involving unique types of monsters and relatively rich story elements, bystanders, and outlines. The stories are intended to be one-shots (lasting anywhere between 4 and 10 hours, so an average of 2 sessions each), and will be run twice on weekdays along the 8-11pm EST spectrum... EXACT DAYS WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE GROUP.
The story arc in a nutshell, to give you a quick and rough idea, goes as follows: The antagonist is the so-called "Void", an omnipresence destined and commited to create chaos in the Universe. Unable to function consciously by itself, the Agents of the Void have been sent to Earth on its behalf, wandering about the globe, and taking advantage of every opportunity they encounter, to fulfill the Void's agenda. The characters will hardly deal with the Agents of the Void directly, but primarily with the mess they have created, killing monsters that are summoned from alien dimensions and correcting the corruptions at human psyche that the Agents of the Void have created...
The monster-hunters, herewith called Void-Hunters, have been recruited by an old group of adventurers, solely dedicated to restoring the chaos and defeating the Void. The specific setting is the Void-Hunter group, New York branch. Key individuals in the Center of Operations in this branch are the following:
- Father Lou, a psychic priest that can sense the presence of the Void on specific locations or people. He will serve as the primary "mission-giver".
- The Benefactor, a multi-millionaire recluse, who joined the Void Hunters for his own personal reasons (which the Benefactor never reveals). He will serve as the "sponsor", covering all monetary needs for the missions.
With the assistance of Father Lou and the Benefactor, the player characters will be recruited as the field operatives of the New York branch, trying to dissipate the incoming Void threats, while simultaneously collecting Intel on the bigger picture...
The story arc serves multiple opportunities for plot twists, and is relatively open-ended, simple and quite accommodating for almost any background. Pick your place in this world, and tell me how you were approached by the Void Hunters, and why did you join in the first place...
