Stars Unbound: The Quest for the Star Map

On the day of the Spellplague, minutes before the Goddess of Magic was murdered, Cacique Agüeyribo of the Tayino people in Maztica was defending his Güayabo Tribe from a horde of Viperhands. The Athkatlan Mage Cristino D’Alonzo had been living with the Tayinos for 5 years training pluma, hishna, and teotl artisans in Faerûnian Arcane Magic. In the middle of the battle, Cacique Agüeyribo asked Cristino D’Alonzo to safeguard 11 members of his family as he commanded the Tayino forces with his elder son Agüeyribo II against the vicious Viperhand attack. As a desperate measure with the Viperhand forces advancing, Cristino used a magical mirror to safeguard Agüeyribo’s family and then teleported back to his study in Amn in the Sword Coast. Then the unthinkable happened.

As the Weave unraveled in Toril as a result of the murder of the Goddess of Magic, Maztica, potentially due to the otherworldliness of the magic of pluma, teotl, and hishna, is spared most of the chaos that engulfs magic. However, tragically, the entire continent is shunted to the twin planet known as Abeir and replaced with the primal realm of dragons known as Laerakond back on Toril. Cacique Agüeyribo with his Tayino Warriors was able to defeat the Viperhand attackers at the Güayabo battle. Unfortunately, with the world shift of Maztica to Abeir, Cristino D’Alonso is unable to return Cacique Agüeyribo’s family back to Maztica. Cacique Agüeyribo and his son, knowing that Cristino D’Alonso saved their family, wait impatiently for their return, which never happens before Cacique Agüeyribo passes away of age. Cristino D’Alonso spent the rest of his life trying to get back to Maztica with no success while keeping Cacique Agüeyribo’s family safe and without aging inside the magical mirror. Cristino documented all the story and his attempts to go back to Maztica before passing away. His notes along with the magic mirror ended in the library of a renowned sage in Athkatla.

Now, more than a century after the Spellplague, with the Second Sundering, Maztica came back from Abeir to Toril. An old mage researching in the library in Athkatla found Cristino D’Alonzo’s notes and the magic mirror. He was able to communicate with the family members of Cacique Agüeyribo trapped in the mirror and decided it was time to bring them Back to Maztica. The sage has retained your services as adventurers to complete the quest that Cristino D’Alonzo was given over a century ago. Much has changed with the Tayino people since the Spellplague. But the story of how Cacique Agüeyribo’s family was saved by a brave Athkatlan Mage, lived to this day to be known as The Legend of Cristino D’Alonzo.
