The Quest for Gnoll Ledge

Looking for Player

Looking for a player who is dedicated to the game, plays consistently, and is willing to build an awesome world together.

Overview

A homebrew campaign set in the Land of Gol, a western peninsula on the greater continent of Thaer. See lore primer for more details. The group meets weekly from 9 AM - 1 PM EST, Saturdays. Sessions tend to spill over timewise; however, they sometimes end earlier, basically between 12 AM - 2 PM. The party is currently at 5th level.

Upon entering the campaign, you will be filled in on details regarding both the Black Rock Mountains, the subregion where the campaign is currently set, and whichever region you choose to hail from. Further, you will be given a quick history of the Gol, the whole campaign region.

About Me

Two things first. One, I’m a new-ish DM. I've DMed a couple games for a little over a year. Two, you never would have guessed that if I hadn’t told you. So far, I have yet to have a player not go out of their way to tell me I am a good DM, even those who have had to leave. (I’m sure eventually I’ll have someone who is unhappy, just as I am sure that a salty DM is applying just to complain. This is the internet. lol)

I tell you all that because I hope to foster an honest, cooperative atmosphere in my games. If you join one of my games, you are not just a faceless player in one of a number of campaigns. I run 2 campaigns at a time. Each player of mine is an important member in the cooperative storytelling game that is D&D.

My DMing Philosophy

Often, I hear DMs say, “I succeed when everyone leaves with a smile on their face.” My philosophy is a little different.

I succeed when as soon as the game ends you are thinking about the next game. I want to get you sitting at your job thinking about that new unique magic item that you got or trying to piece together seemingly disparate plot points. When you lie in bed at night wondering about how the party will overcome the next major hurdle or whether or not to trust a given NPC, that’s me succeeding.

What I Like In My Players

Effort. Good stories come out of players putting energy into their characters and DMs putting lots of detail into the world. Also, it doesn't matter if you are shy or super confident. As long as you want to have fun, want the other members to have fun, and want to tell a good story together that's great! FYI, I love it when confident RPers use that strength to open up the floor to players that may tend to stay back and RP less.

(I'm looking for mature players, preferably 18+)

Payment Plan

My pricing plan beginning October through December 2020 is:

$5.00 - Weekly Price
$16.00 - 4 Week Price

Payment needs to be received minimum 48 hours prior to start time for game planning purposes.

Why Charge?

Easy answer: It’s my get rich quick scheme.

…All joking aside, my DMing style involves me spending hours outside of the game, ~2:1, outside to in, plus the fact that it costs me to upkeep the tools required to DM. Basically, you will be paying to upkeep things and maybe a cup of coffee for me. DMing is not something that I earn a living off of. It is a passion of mine. Yet, in order to keep that passion going, I need to not bleed money.

Things to Note

  • Voice required, video optional: I use my video to enhance the experience. If you like to use it, you are welcome to as well.
  • Session write-ups: I generally post my session write-ups in the group discord for the players' convenience. These do not record every detail of the session nor do they intend to. Players should keep their own notes, but I put these up to help.
  • Mature themes: Fair warning, there may be mature themes in this campaign. However, I'm not looking to just throw things in for shock value. If you are uncomfortable with certain subjects, please make that clear up front.
  • PC character death: I aim to give players fair warning if their character is heading towards a deadly encounter or is doing something that would otherwise result in PC death. However, if your plan is to play a lawful stupid paladin and run head first into a war-band of orcs or an edge-lord rogue killing indiscriminately, you will meet a swift demise.
  • PC vs PC conflict: Largely, I don't allow this, with the exception of when it is in character and in service of the whole group having fun, i.e., the temperamental gnome wizard kicks the half-orc barbarian in the shin dealing 1 point of damage for not protecting her better in battle.
  • Allowed materials: Any official content set in the Forgotten Realms is allowed. Run through other WoTC content as well as UA with me. I may allow it. I'm also generally fine with Matt Mercer content, Blood Hunter and EGtW.
  • Homebrew: Another warning. I do like to homebrew. I especially like making bosses that have specific weaknesses for the party to figure out. Most enemies and items won't be homebrew, but some will. Just to let you know.
  • Compendium: The compendiums to 5E core rule books and the Explorer's Guide to Wintermount are shared with you in this game.

Code of Conduct

  • Don't be an ass. I'll kick you out if you are an ass, especially if you are one to other players.
  • Respect the other players and the characters they have created.
  • Let me know at least 48 hours before a session if you are going to miss. Also, that way I don't charge you. If you miss more than one session without telling me, I kick you.
  • Play with integrity. I really don't care for cheaters. This includes all advantage plays some people try to pull like "practice" rolling.

How do I get started?

First, fill out and post a reply to the Apply Here forum. Then, if you get a response, it will be me asking to get your Discord Username. Over Discord, I’ll schedule an interview with you. They tend to be no longer than 30 minutes, often substantially shorter. (Don’t stress about them. Mostly, this is me checking that you aren’t an axe murderer.) Then, if all goes well, we’ll get on Roll20 sometime later where I’ll help you set up your character sheet. The only thing you’ll have left to do is complete the Bio page on your character sheet on your own time and you’ll be all set!
