Want to try your hand at a new world with a unique yet simple system? I have played Talislanta (created 1987) for over 15 years now and want to share the breathless scope of excitement and mysteries with Roll 20 users and bring a little different line-up to the table than the usual RPGs played. There are fantastic intriguing political circles, like held in the 7 Kingdoms or a vast wilderness of dangers and pre-disaster treasures. Flying cities of wonders and mystery and even slave raids on the high seas and that barely scratching the service. There wont be your standard elves, dwarves, humans, tolkenites, ect ect. As a matter of fact the rallying Talislanta disclaimer is "Still No Elves!".So get ready for a UNIQUE experience. But enough about me! Onward to the campaign info.
Players 3-6
The rule book has 113 playable Archetypes character races to choose from! With also alot more archetypes on the main website if main rule book doesn't whet your appetite. But don't worry i also have 14 Pre-Generated Archetypes already made and ready to play if you want to jump in feet first . You just need to insert a creative personality in them or if you need guidance for the race you can read the cultures, tips, and way of life in the rule book. If you find another archetype in the book you feel more comfortable trying out; then by all means plz tell me before the game starts and ill create it in less than 5 mins for you. Moving on to the rulebook, there's Good news and Bad news. The Good news is the Tal book (Tal=Talislanta for short) is FREE to download at http://talislanta.com/?page_id=5... Yes i said FREE! Also free you get fan materials and other lore and whatever you like to explore since the creators gave up the liscene to their fans 5 years ago. Its a 511 page book with about 8 pages explaining the rules and unique magic system. The rest is filled with lore and talks about each races culture and history of the different Archetypes. YOU DO NOT need to read or download the rule book , because i can honestly get you up running and understanding within 4 or 5 mins tops. That how easy the system is with the skills and combat, but you will notice you have lots of different choices in combat instead of the usual "i roll to attack... i roll to attack ect ect" which makes combat fluid and more realistic and ultimately more exciting. The magic system might actually take you about 10 mins to learn and more the reason it takes longer is the sheer flexible way you can do magic. Using a formula magic sheet i provide you... You can create any spell you imagine on the fly and all you have to do is successfully cast it. Finally the freedom to create any spell whenever and whatver you like, Only drawback is you will become exhausted the more spells you cast and eventually will have to rest or risk fumbling.. And we all know how bad magical spell fumbles can possibly get! Oh thats right the bad news is... There wont be any elves whatsoever! (pokes finger at all the Tolkenites mainstream rpgs)
The continent of Talislanta is kinda best exampled as a Post-Apocalypse Magical land in the medieval time period of the world. A great disaster happened that destroyed many people and many civilizations that were mighty in power and magic. For whatever reason (adventure hook!) the Great disaster happened and magic and technologies of the land were buried and forgotten since everyone was simply trying to survive the fallout. Fast forward 400 years and civilizations and different society/kingdoms/empires are once again flourishing and rising. A person can get very rich/ powerful if they could find Pre-Disaster relics and magical items or even lost lore books in the world. If they can survive the wilderness, weather, other adventurers, monsters ect ect. One important thing players must understand is that there is no Levels. The continent of Talislanta is already made and things live out there are actually there. So if a party decides to go and check out that Crystal Tower they see in the distance without researching or scouting.. whatever is there is there. For example in DnD terms.. you start at "Level" 1 and after killing 7 Kobolds or rats; you check the tower to find a 20th level Dragon there hungrily waiting for the unprepared. Players gain XP to improve skills and or attributes (which affect skills highly) and Talislanta can be a brutal place. Fortunately the Archetypes are equipped to survive...within reason. I as the GM will definitely help the players party advance, but i don't pull punches. Also there is no concept of pure Good and pure Evil in Talislanta. In Talislanta there are no alignments only different "perceptions" each race is judged by their actions (which you can tell some races call "evil" while others called justified...ah point of views; So trivial yet so deadly they can become. So you can play whatever party you like, but keep in mind every action there is a reaction. Some people will try to take advantage of you if you're seen as good and nice; or people could become afraid of you and decide not too sell food or run away after hearing you butchered a town of innocent people.
I'm looking to play this game once either weekly or every other week. All up to the group. Monday thru Thursday I'm free whenever (Some Saturdays or Sundays i could be free as well, but would have to be scheduled in advance). Time wise is open to the group so give me your times if you're interested so i can try and make the best time available for everyone to approve. I'm pretty flexible...
This will be a recorded campaign that if everything goes smoothly i will write in a novel series im planning to write in a few years. There will be plenty of combat , but a little more role-playing will be required so everyone can really get into the feel of the setting. Roughly 55% Role-playing, 45 percent combat. I apologize for the long post i just wanted to give a detailed accounting if anyone is interested or curious. Please feel free anytime to post questions or interest in playing.
