Domhan Atolas

Welcome to Domhan Atolas!

"The world long divided, must unite. The world long united, must divide. So it has ever been..."

Domhan Atolas is an old world, and many kingdoms and peoples have come and gone over the long years, the world itself used to be named Domhan before the New Gods according to Cyril-Kova.

Ancient ruins of long-forgotten empires dot the landscape and few people today know no more of the history of the world than what they know of the last few generations.

For in the dark ages between the rise and fall of great empires, much is forgotten.

After a harrowing Catechism tore the world asunder in a Forgotten Age of Apathy, sentient beings were once again reduced to a primitive state and climbed back to civilization with the help of the New Gods.

Later on, fall of the great Doldrist Empire, five centuries ago, marked the start of a long, dark age. Warlords and governors waged war for long years to tear off their own small corners of the once great Empire. Refugees retreated behind the walls of the surviving castles and towns. The elves and dwarves retreated to their own corners of the land. And savage creatures tore at civilization from every direction.

The legendary line of rulers has disappeared long ago, and with it, various nations once serving under its banner has greedily torn the world to shreds, hoarding every relic of the regalia the hero once used to bring peace and humanity back from a land of demons....

It is now time for the world to unite! Whether the rumors are to be believed and the scion of the hero is still in existence to take the throne, or other brave souls (recovering the artifacts of the legendary progenitor of kings and heroes) strive to heal this cursed and divided land and rule themselves, only time will tell...

Game Rules/Notes:

I've written a number of rules and compiled various others. These are influenced or copied from Microlite 20, Basic SRD, and (my favorite) AD&D into an easy, streamlined system that should be fun and enjoyable.

Player's Handbook (12 Pages) -Master this one! Required to play.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zz1fVsCx7ZIYdhirrpIeLJFOOc9ztJsK6cGpvNdY7DY/edit?usp=sharing

Magic/Spell List (40 Pages) - Not needed unless you're a caster, and even then, only save the few you learned in a separate sheet for quick reference.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1q_xM1MeAkRaLD4gT0qh11KpJFolcU2m7QspSjWusFxw/edit?usp=sharing

Money/Equipment Emporium (23 Pages) - Only used once or twice mainly for character creation and rarely after. Don't bother memorizing, but it's great for reference.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yvFy-Aw5RABaHWK7obXzSv3WiutIZ6BClXGeAN1inNE/edit?usp=sharing

Also, you must be able to update your character sheet when necessary!
(Such as when you acquire or deplete an item (i.e Food, Arrows, Quarrels, Sling Stones, Oil, Torches, etc.), or daily spell & equipment maintenance ). This includes when creating character you must buy clothing and carrying cases for individual items (damaged magical scrolls and items rattling in a backpack are dangerous)

-World Map and helpful links for new player's included within game.

A note on DEATH. Yes, it does suck and I hate it too, but it can be poignant, beautiful and useful. That said, if you are stupid don't be surprised when the world punishes you for stupidity. When you die (unless you are godly lucky) you will need to work with the GM and start rolling a character in the character creation section of discord so you are not disruptive in any way towards the active game for the other players..

DEATH IS AT ZERO HP (just like a video game). You get one death save each time you enter this state to prevent a death (unless you have Wish or other resurrection magic)..

Ground Rules/Social Contract:

Usually these games run 4 hours per session starting at 4 PM (16:00) CST (unless combat runs long and in which case you must stay for that or you lose exp) , but sometimes we may end early, so it's important to take your time and roleplay and immerse yourself, which is what I also love and reward. It's encouraged (but not required) come and/or stay an hour before/later in order to socialize with players and/or ask questions, express concerns, etc.

Please be sure you can absolutely stay awake or stay for the whole duration consistently, during this live gaming session time period before joining!

Please don't be distracted by existing or open player slots. We are always trying to find active characters and sometimes people will join and end up only trying it out or never showing.

You must respond to postings made by the DM or other players or you will be booted from the game. This is being done due to trolling and people joining the game, making it look full and never responding to anyone or even playing the game.

I do value your time and effort you personally contribute into this, and I hope we can explore all the interesting things we discover about yourself and the world.

We use Discord for chatting outside of game. This is only text, no voice, which helps in the Role-Playing, and greatly speeds up game play. I expect proper writing, and properly structure of posts. Use this to help. https://wiki.roll20.net/Text_Chat

-Please be distinctive when communicating out of character (OOC) or in character. This can be done a variety of ways. For example: Gregax peers at the discolored gap between the flagstone steps, hearing echos of a river below. "How about we use those sledge hammers on the entrance way with the out of place step?" (BRB, getting water)

This also means there often will not be maps (as TTRPGs are too dependent on maps anyhow nowadays) auto given, sometimes they will be, mostly for combat encounters as reference, but players should be able to draw their own (and it's kind of fun to draw your own map too). Mostly maps are pointless, and not really needed except for combat or very specific cases.

What I am looking for:

1) Players that respond to their adventure within 24 hours of the DM's last post.
2) Players that respond to the DM's Personal Messages within 24 hours.
3) Players who want to stay in a long term campaign.
4) Players that respect the DM's authority (which is absolute).
5) Players that enjoy roleplaying their character.
6) Players that enjoy dungeon exploration.
7) Players that don't mind if their character dies (as they will simply make another).
8) Players that accept encounters are not balanced.
9) Players that look for other solutions than fighting.
10) Players that are can behave well. Not uncooperative, selfish, or disruptive.
11) Players that want their character to grow over time from a roleplaying aspect.

What I am not looking for:

1) Players who are so busy with their schedule that they cannot respond within 24 hours of the last DM's post.
2) Players who don't respond to personal messages within 24 hours (or just flat out ignore them).
3) Players who just want to "try it out" and then leave. Players who leave suddenly without warning. Players who have no intention of staying long term in the campaign.
4) Players who like to argue with the DM, thinking they can prove the DM wrong by using the rules as a weapon (Rules Lawyer). Players who think they are above the DM's authority.
5) Players that just want to fight, who hate roleplaying their character.
6) Players who hate dungeon grinding, killing monsters, solving puzzles, and evading traps.
7) Players who ragequit when the dice do not favor them, resulting in their character's death.
8) Players who demand every encounter be perfectly balanced for their character.
9) Players that just want to roll dice to kill monsters without thinking at all.
10) Players who want to play evil characters who hate being part of a party and act only for themselves.
11) Players who think that a bunch of statistics on their character sheet defines their character..
12) Players that only want to watch and never play the game. (You have Twitch for that)

-No real restrictions on alignment, but evil characters will not last very long for various reasons and are VERY hard to play for those new to the game. Plus regardless of your alignment your character must follow the general group goals and objectives, so make something that will fit in the world and the game. Nothing disruptive.

ALIGNMENTS:
Different players will play different alignments differently. Please, as a player, do not upset the flow of the game by arguing over how someone plays their alignment, consult the GM/DM. Starting a PvP (or player vs. player) fight in the middle of a game session, because you think a player is acting in an unacceptable way, is to be referred to the GM/DM as judge of the world and all therein. You may question how someone acts, and ask questions after, or if you feel the need to, take a break from the game for a while, but it is not your call to start a PvP brawl, because you do not agree. Unless you have obtained in clear writing from both sides that it is ok and accepted to do so (and everyone fully understands), and will immediately accept it when others want you to legitimately stop.

I do recommend everyone going through Roll20's tutorial. https://app.roll20.net/editor/tutorial/

-Game is rated for Teens and Older, no graphic pornographic content, cussing must be censored.

-Looking for REGULARLY attending players, this will be a WEEKLY game.

-Don't be rude, play nice with others. BE RESPECTFUL AT ALL TIMES (when acting as player, not necessarily as character).

....and anything else the GM decides needs to be included.

I am always trying to improve and be the best GM I can be, and I hope to meet like minded people who can be the best players they can be. Clear feedback and communication in a respectful manner is welcomed!

I'm not afraid to ask for help/advice and neither should you be.

  • All other scenarios, rules, changes, etc are at the discretion of the GM.

  • Any questions, comments, and concerns are welcome!
