The Logokron's Curse

Campaign Blurb
Old wives' tales and frightful nursery rhymes. That's all they were. Oni attacking children in the night or hags stealing them for a meal. Frightful images and scary scenarios but they don't compare to what you are being forced to endure.
Time has become hard to track but it feels like years have gone by since you've arrived. Where you've come, it could be misinterpreted for the Nine Hells. The air carries with it misery and around you creatures of fiendish origin. Enslaved, tortured, and forced to mine stone as black as obsidian, you fight for the will to carry on in hopes of one day breaking free from this nightmare.
The very atmosphere fills you with dread as day after day goes by without resolve. Those that can't handle the effects go mad and are taken away never to be seen again, or they simply die from the exhaustion. You're prevented from talking to the other slaves and in the times of silence you've realized something horrible that you keep asking yourself: who am I?
While you've retained your faith in the Gods you might believe in or the training you've endured that once saw you skilled in combat, where you're from, what your history was, and how you arrived here are all questions you have no knowledge of. You can't even remember your own name. You know that when you arrived to this forsaken land you possessed this knowledge. Now, however, it is gone as if stolen away. All that you know is the name given to you by the horrible fiends who have enslaved you.
This cannot continue. You've seen the same look in the eyes of the other slaves: the yearning for freedom from this accursed moment in time. You must find a way to escape and find yourself once more. But how?

Campaign Information
This is a homebrew campaign that will take place mostly within the Shadowfell, starting at level 2. We will explore the city of Gloomwrought and the turmoil of over fifteen factions within the city. There will be exploration not just within the city but around the plane of existence as well, including several Domains of Dread (e.g. Barovia). Eventually there will be exploration to other planes of existence as well. Interaction can occur with races of all planes and worlds, especially shadowborn versions and natives of Shadowfell including the shadar-kai, krinth, and khayal. There are over fifty new homebrew creatures that can be encountered, ranging from shadowborn versions of creatures you might encounter on the Material Plane to creatures of lore such as death giants, dusk beasts, and shadow dragons. There will be dark elements such as human sacrifices, horror themes, gore descriptions, etc. This is a more mature game setting and I expect my players to be able to understand it on a mature level.

Dungeon Master Information
My name is Dom, 28, and I have the privilege of being a stay-at-home father of two after serving in the U.S. Navy for nine years. I've been DMing since August 2018, having DM'd for homebrew campaigns and Wizards modules. I've DM'd for Adventures League at a local store as well as several D&D conventions. For some reviews of my work, please check out my Roll20 profile to see some of the wonderful comments I've been able to gather.

What I promise to bring:
I will always ensure that I come to the game session ready to DM with a great attitude and as prepared as any DM can be for any shenanigans that might unfold. This includes a detailed mindset of the lore involved, the mechanics of 5E, and the capabilities of using Roll20. I will provide the Charactermancer of all published books (PHB, VOLO, MTOF, XGTE, TCE) so that character building can be that much easier for you. I will provide music and certain sound effects; voice modulation for certain creatures; attempts as accents (attempts, I say); high quality detailed maps and proper setup; organized Journal entries including many visual and lore handouts to better assist your immersion; and detailed quest tracking, session recaps, and party loot tracking. While all of this may sound great, understand that I will not be perfect and this is by no means an attempt at the Matt Mercer Effect. It is my style of DMing and as I continue to get better, I will learn from my mistakes and apply them for future sessions.

What I expect from you:
TIMELINESS. You will be on time and ready to go. If you cannot make it to the session, I need to know about it at least two days in advance if it isn't an emergency. If you are frequently absent without an excuse or late, you will be warned or potentially removed from the campaign.
TECHNICAL PREP. I expect that all technical issues will be resolved prior to starting the session, including the function of your microphone and webcam. Webcam isn't required but preferred. Discord will be used for out-of-session roleplaying and voice communications. Roll20 will be used for video connection. (Discord has better voice controls but Roll20 has in-game video feature).
PILLAR ENGAGEMENT. I will strive to ensure all three pillars are met each session if possible (exploration, roleplay, combat). I expect you to be engaged and focused on the session at hand and actively following through with scenarios.
TEAMWORK. This campaign will require teamwork in order to survive. The Shadowfell is a harsh plane to visit and you never know what might be out to harm you. Rely on each other and play off of each other's strengths and weaknesses. As the DM, I will reward players who closely follow the R.E.S.P.E.C.T. tips.
ATTITUDE. You may be a knowledge player that engages in the story well but if you have a horrible attitude, that takes away from the session itself and makes you an undesirable player to keep. I will warn against any attitudes and if it is severe enough, I will have to remove you from the campaign. If we need to discuss a ruling, we can do so in a civil manner and provide the reference that shows the ruling. If it is ambiguous, either the DM will have the final say, or we will vote on it as a group which is more likely. Understand that any criticism you might receive isn't to make you feel bad but to help you improve for future sessions. No one here is perfect and together we can improve on any issues we might have.
FEEDBACK. After each session, I post a post-session questionnaire that can be answered over the week. It isn't always required to be filled out, but it will be posted each time and as the DM, I will also fill it out. This will look at your favorite player moments, your favorite DM moments, what you are hoping for in the next session, and what the DM or party can improve on, if anything at all.
POST-SESSION ENGAGEMENT. There will be times when a certain PC might need to do a side mission, perhaps as a downtime activity. These might result in mini sessions that will need to be scheduled for the PCs involved and typically won't take longer than an hour. I will work with you to determine the best time to cover these special sessions. Besides that, there will be text roleplay channels that can be utilized outside of the session. If there were moments you wished to roleplay with another PC but things were moving too quickly, or you want to RP during a downtime event, or perhaps you'd rather a roleplay moment outside of the session so that the conversation doesn't bloat the session, these text channels can be used to have that discussion. Typically these scenarios should be limited to one-on-one scenarios only to help with scheduling of various players and their capability to respond during the week. This is a great opportunity to bond with other PCs and find out/discuss information that could be useful for the following sessions. It'll also help make the sessions more oriented towards the party as a whole rather than a 20-30 minute conversation among two PCs, a PC and an NPC, shopping, etc.

Character Creation / Homebrew Rules:
- You will have and use a character sheet in Roll20. You cannot roll dice on camera or use a sheet from DND Beyond. You can import your character if you have a predetermined character sheet.
- The campaign will start with PCs at level 2
- There is a modified feat system. Any time a PC would gain an ASI on level-up, they gain instead a +1 ASI and the capability to choose three revised feats as listed in the homebrew list below. The feats listed are not all inclusive and as gameplay occurs, more feats will be unlocked (especially feats oriented towards developments in the Shadowfell).
- Because of the revised feat system, there will be no multiclassing.
Below are links to show all of my homebrew rules, the revised feat system, and additional character creation options for the setting.

How to be selected:
The process for selecting players will take time. It isn't first come, first served. It isn't about who can make the most unique race/class combination. I take all factors into account when deciding on who will be accepted to play.
1.) The first step will be to fill out an application form. Once completed, you will reply to the below Application Submissions & Questions thread that you have submitted an application.
2.) If selected, you will then go through an interview process over Discord and Roll20. It will be a one-on-one scenario so that I can see your technical level of knowledge, ability to use Roll20, your style of play, as well as showing my style of DMing, and to get to know you.
3.) If selected, you will be informed via Discord or Roll20 messaging and will receive an invitation to the campaign.

How to get to the front of the line for selection:
- I am a fan of tending to forever DMs. Especially those that have ran homebrew campaigns.
- In the interview process, have a great quality microphone and webcam. Webcam is optional, but still preferred.
- Research about the Shadowfell a little before applying. Apply your knowledge to your application or within the interview.
- Connect your application to the Campaign Blurb. Understand where you are starting from and where the campaign is leading. You could just as easily be a Shadowfell native like the Krinth and have been enslaved by the fiends of the Blurb. You could've been taken from a variety of worlds within the multiverse.
- Have an in-depth knowledge of the 5E system and at least a decent understanding of the lore of the Forgotten Realms (e.g. knowing some of the more popular gods, especially for the setting like the Raven Queen).
