Most of the personnel of the ***Dawn Chaser*** have been together for a year, some longer, and though they had been through many scraps, sticky situations, and weird passengers, they had gotten through it all by sticking together.
Their ship has been designed for opening up new trade routes or reconnecting with lost systems. Features such as extra large water tanks, life support supplies & recycling system as well as cutting edge and expensive anti-matter power plant, extensive workshop, and parts onboard allow the ship to spend more time away from a shipyard. Cutting down on supplies needed to operate, the majority of its tools and weapons are energy based. The defensive 'sand-caster' uses physical projectiles, but given a source of silicon, iron, Calcium, Fluoride, Germanium, Magnesium, Potassium, and other trace elements it can manufacture the effective prismatic dust that is its main component.
The ship has well appointed staterooms for those aboard, as well as top notch facilities, such as the medical bay, an expansive work out facility, galley, and even a green space.
Those currently on the Dawn Chaser were expecting the standard mission of exploring regions that had been 'lost' during the dark years after the fall of the Imperium. Here is who was on board when the ship left for its latest mission.
Ship's Owner (NPC) - The mysterious owner is mostly known for the variety of encounter suits they have, the several names and titles they use, and the non-verbal communication they prefer to employ.
Baroness Captain H.E. Spurlok (available) - Third born nobility with two older brothers, she eventually ended up in the Navy and served 16 years, the last 8 as a captain of increasingly larger ships. She was injured in service, decided to get out, recovered, and eventually was recruited to be the captain of the Dawn Chaser. Her experience amongst the nobility and as captain gives her a quiet and steady demeanor in being the captain of a vessel that spends long periods beyond the boarders of 'civilization'.
Pilot B-113 Anaisha (PC) - Anaisha is a friendly, outgoing young woman who seems to dream of adventures, but rarely gets to step foot off the ship. She, along with the Navigator, have been with the ship since it was constructed.
Navigator B-117 Reyansh (available?) - A skittish and withdrawn young man with glowing blue hair and no wish to leave the ship, but seems to love navigating to new and uncharted areas of space. He, along with the Pilot, have been with the ship since it was constructed.
Ship's Engineer Thusha Kwatal (available) - A prominent figure in ship interface design, he started out as an overly educated ship's engineer, eventually recruited to the company that built the Dawn Chaser and then accepted the position as its engineer.
Comms Officer Emily 'Emma' LeFey (PC) - The mysterious and young looking woman who seems quite adept at talking others into what she wants.
Ship's Doctor Yoseph Einstein (PC) - A reformed gang member and prisoner, the doctor has adopted a strict non-violence philosophy and has dedicated his life to saving others.
Gunner Ruby Bishop (available) - Ruby joined the marines as soon as she was eligible and enjoyed her 12 years there, but got recruited into a mercenary outfit (doing the same job for much more money). Ruby has served as a gunner on trucks and air/rafts to capital cruiser ships. The owner talked her out of renewing her contract as a mercenary to join the Dawn Chaser.
Logistics and Supply Officer Barkha Hassan (available) - Barkha finished college and joined the Navy as an officer for 8 years. She left the Navy for a mercenary unit, spending 4 years turning it from a small enterprise that was mostly guns for hire into a company that is now more known for secure shipping and transportation. After being disappointed as the logistics officer at a planet based corporation, Barkha was convinced to join the Dawn Chaser as its Logistics and Supply officer. On such long trade missions, she has learned to balance trade goods, supplies, and juggling the space available in the ship.
Security Towchu (PC) - A bipedal hunter race not common to the region the ship works from, but is an honor bound protector.
Engineer Yong-Mi Beaudoin (available) - Yong-Mi grew up on construction sites and her wide range of experiences made her an excellent choice as the mission's construction and infrastructure engineer.
Trade Union Rep Ashish E'Har (available) - Once he had proved himself very smart and capable as well as trustworthy, Ashish has great leeway in negotiating deals that will lead to profit and market expansion for the members of the trade union.
Sister Megan Napthali (available) - The Church of Celestial Purpose is a service organization that Megan was working her way towards a leadership role when she was selected to help spread the word and help those who have been lost to the dark and savage life after being cut-off from society and the Church. The Sister is caring and considerate, but is not naive and stupid. She wants to help others, but has worked with poor and needy as well as with opportunists enough to know the difference.
Baron Diplomat Damu Aod (deceased) - Coming from a successful career negotiating trade deals between belters and various organizations, Damu shifted to more political dealings, but grew bored with one system and took the position of diplomat. A cultured and refined aristocrat that has spent time with and negotiate for hard working belters, he seems to do well across different levels of status.
Technician Florence Vedi (available?) - College educated and 8 years in the Navy gave her a well rounded education and experience of working on starships. Add 2 more years working as a starport repair engineer gave her experience beyond standard Navy ships and less standard repair techniques. Florence took a few jobs, but ended up on the Dawn Chaser and come to be trusted by the owner for her knowledge and experience with a variety of technologies and systems.
Success should come with this compliment of personnel, extensive supplies, trade goods that lean heavily into humanitarian aid (such as medical supplies), as well as educational material, 'blueprints', anything the integrated fabbers can make, and a fusion power plant kit.
The ideal was that even in the extreme if the system visited did not have 'modern' technology but was a prime candidate for setting up trade with, a space station or remotely located trading post/star port could be established, powered by the fusion power plant (constructed from the kit), and trade could be worked out after the (hopeful) good will by providing excess power.
These trips usually had a 1 in 4 success rate that systems visited were not wiped out during the diaspora or was in the condition to establish trade. Some where found that were barely surviving. One system had obviously flourished... until their star went through an unstable period... From what the evidence left said that a series of coronal mass ejections damaged the planet and orbital facilities, leading to a rapid downward spiral...
Other times they found caveman like groups, planets smashed by comets or asteroids... and once where the star was missing all of its planets. That one was hard to explain in the span of the fall of the galactic society and its recent resurgence. Other common things were systems that could not support life without resupply, diseases, or that they could not stand up to the local flora & fauna.
Usually the ship left with six possible systems to visit within a reasonable route the ship could complete given that one or two of the systems would allow the ship to replenish its supplies. So far it had always paid off, no dipping into the emergency rations that could also be used to help those systems on the edge of starvation.
But one was never sure what one would find when re-establishing contact. Sometimes the records were incomplete, other times they were mixed up or somehow confused... as the records did not match the systems they visited.
What would this new exploration mission bring, trying to establish a new society to span thousands of systems in this part of the galaxy? It had paid off so far and the owner was betting it would keep paying off.
Then there was the misjump...
Now the ship is in a part of the universe unknown to those onboard, who are struggling to figure out what to do in this situation...
