The Dragon of Thunder Hills

A quick intro to RuneQuest, primarily intended for people new to the system, but open to all.

The party is a group of adventurers based in the City of Clearwine, the seat of the Colymar tribe, one of the tribes of the Kingdom of Sartar. Until last Earth Season( roughly, autumn) , Sartar was ruled by the Lunar Empire, which conquered them many years ago. At that time, when the Lunar priests and rulers were involved in a magic ritual to seal their rule over Sartar, Sartarite priests and mages performed their own ritual, and summoned a great True Dragon, kilometers in length. The True Dragon consumed most of the Lunars at their ritual, including a large part of their military forces in the area. With the Lunar forces crushed, the Sartarites have thrown out the remainder, and the tribes have reclaimed their freedom.

However, for many years what held the Sartarites together has been the opposition to the Lunar Empire. With them gone, old rivalries have risen again. And while the Lunar puppet that held the throne in Boldhome( capital of Sartar ) has been cast out, Kallyr Starbrow, who has claimed the title of Prince of Sartar, is not universally supported. Her leadership, such as is was, of the failed, so-called "Starbrow's Rebellion" in 1613( 12 years ago ) created some enemies for her. Or, at least, those that question her leadership abilities. Queen Leika of the Colymar, who barely acknowledges Kallyr Starbrow as Prince, is seeking to rally clans and nearby tribes under her name.

Still, life goes on. It is now Fertility week (the first of eight weeks )of Storm Season(roughly winter), just weeks after the Dragonrise. The remains of the Lunar army has retreated to its winter quarters in Alda-Chur, to the north. Rumors abound of Kallyr planning to undergo the Lightbringers Quest at this years Sacred Time, in just a few weeks. Queen Leika is trying to gather support from the neighboring clans and tribes.

The party is traveling south, along a herders path between Swan and Black Spear, and then through Nymie Vale, heading for Clearwine. To the east, the thick woods of Tarndisi's Grove can be seen; to the west looms the high cliffs of the Starfire Ridges. It is late morning, and the group expects to be in Clearwine before nightfall. All seems quiet.....

This will be a one-shot game. The scenario presented should at least give you the possibility of seeing all RuneQuest has to offer. Once the scenario is completed, the game will be over. I expect 2 or 3 sessions to complete the scenario.

I've set the "Next scheduled game" date to the earliest possible date. The game will run every other Thursday night, at 7PM US Central time. So, if we don't have enough players by that date( I want at least 4 players ), we'll push the date out until we do.
