Space: 1889

We will be playing Frank Chadwick's Space: 1889.

The Nineteenth Century is ending and Europe has somehow managed to colonize Mars. The luminiferous ether exists, there's a type of wood that floats, Mars has Martians as well as the iconic canals, and Venus is a tropical paradise if you ignore the humidity and the dinosaurs. You have decided to head to Mars to seek your fortune among the steppes and canals, either as a subject of the British Empire or at least someone passing through. Will you survive in outer space in 1889?

  • We are playing the original version of Frank Chadwick's Space: 1889, not the Ubiquity version. We do have a few supplements in use, including the Soldier's Companion and Ironclads and Ether Flyers.
  • Character creation is via the distribution method described in the original rulebook.
  • Available languages for the Linguistics skill are for the most part limited to what can be found in the literature (though you can ask about exceptions).
  • In addition to British subjects, characters can be American or Australian if desired (following the appropriate guidelines).

Campaign image is a drawing of Mars' supposed canals as observed and illustrated by Percival Lowell, the creation of which predates 1915.
