Starting Level: 4
Character Creation: See Rules section bellow

Time: Thursdays at 19:00 GMT +3

Intro

Welcome to Chult, a land Untouched by time, full of danger and hidden treasures. Set out into the wilderness, seek and discover lost civilizations, pick the bones of ancient tombs and battle dinosaurs. Delve into ruins and be tested by trials and traps. Then haul your precious treasure back to safety across the deadly jungle while fighting off fauna and flora of such staggering ferocity that none but the bravest would dare face.
You are heroes, mercenaries , explorers and adventurers. Hired to go on an expedition in this land of untamed jungle. Your adventure begins in Port Nyanzaru where your boss, the famous writer, explorer and food critic Volothramp Geddarm has bet everything you own on a dinosaur race! All in exchange for a map to an ancient hidden temple or some nonsense.

Adventure info

This is going to be a short adventure in the jungle of Chult. It will likely last a handfull of sessions.
It is going to feature a small dungeon that we can probably get through in a single session, then some exploration. It will feature dinosaurs, jungle survival and monkeys.
If people like it a lot and want to keep playing longer, I have prepared another dungeon map that will likely take 2 maybe 3 sessions to go through if you're taking your time and some more map-exploration in the form of a hex-crawl that features several discover-able locations with encounters that will be both theatre of the mind and grid-based combat. I'll be taking a lot of inspiration from the Tomb of Annihilation adventure module and the supporting content that was released for it at the time.

Role-playing style: Relatively serious with some room for banter in character and out of character while we play but please keep it sorta clean when you roleplay. Try not to start fights with your party members. While I totally get that your character might have an issue with another character based on alignment or magic or something, do not overdo it. Player to player hostility (warranted or not) will not be tolerated.
The character you create must be someone who you will enjoy role-playing and using in combat. The adventure will likely include a large amount of combat but the more you RP, the better. Exploring the jungle and delving into dungeons will be the main feature of the adventure but don’t let that dissuade you form building a charismatic talker.
Morally gray characters are acceptable but please steer clear of the path of evil. You’re not gonna get too many chances to be a villain in the jungle anyway.

DM style

  • For me, planning is a huge part of the game. I like to have at least a loose idea of what might happen in a session ahead of time rather than making stuff up on the fly. That doesn't mean I'm bad at making stuff up though. I just like having a plan.
  • No plan ever survives contact with players, so I try to be flexible and accommodating with various degrees of success.
  • I work with milestone levelling instead of XP awards because killing for XP leads to murder-hoboism. And that’s terrible. However, don't let that discourage you. If you love getting XP I have a solution for you. I've created a homebrew system that lets characters spend XP to gain new features on their sheet and I typically give small amounts of XP at the end of every session towards that.
  • I don’t particularly like murder hobos or joke characters. Sometimes players do silly things, I get that, but sometimes that same silliness leads to cruelty and uncomfortable situations or makes everyone at the table groan because you've just ruined a tense moment with a stupid joke. Actions have consequences, and jokes have a time and place. Keep that in mind.
  • I create lots of assets for the Roll20 marketplace, so with time you can expect a personalized player token. Especially if I like your character.
  • I have been a DM for several years, and have experience GMing a variety of different systems including previous editions of dungeons and dragons, Vampire the Masquerade, Warhammer 40k Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader and Star Wars. I’m pretty good at it. Think of me as a discount Matt Mercer but far better looking.
  • Yes. I do voices.

Rules:

  • You can be any alignment you like. Heroes are preferred, however as long as you can get along with others, play it smart and don't ruin anyone's fun I'm cool with you being evil. Basically you're allowed to be a little bit of a dickhead but not totally psycho. You get me?
  • Unearthed arcana and other playtesting or 3rd party material is strictly FORBIDDEN. I will throw any characters that use such material directly into a volcano. Then I will throw the players after them. I have that power.
  • Characters start at lvl 4 with point buy system. Multi-classing is allowed. You're allowed to use material from up to 1 officially published book + player's handbook. Forgotten Realms only. (no campaign setting books. That means no Eberron and Strahd, No Ravnica, no Theros, no Wildemount, no Strixhaven, no Spelljammer, no Dragonlance. Only Forgotten realms.)
  • If you aren't happy with something concerning your character, you can change Class/Subclass/Race/Skills/Spells/Background/Ability scores until session 4 as long as its rules legal and you have the DM's approval.
  • House rules apply to this game. I have a rule where you can accumulate XP and spend it to buy skills and feats and stuff. I use house rules for alchemy, cooking, hunting and crafting. I will explain, they’re mostly straightforward and simple.

Communication:

We use the adult version of Intergalactic Common to verbally communicate aka. the English language. Games will be conducted via Discord (I also speak Greek, Bulgarian, and a little Dutch. I also speak Monke, but its not super helpful). A stable internet connection and a functional microphone are required. Cameras are nice to have but not absolutely necessary. If everyone is up for it I'm gonna be using mine to make funny faces at you for 3 hours a week, I'd appreciate it if you could make some faces back at me as well.

How to Apply

Under the post Character Recruitment in the discussion section below you will find a form to fill in for consideration. Copy the text in that form and create a new topic by clicking +Post New Topic on this page, name it ["your character's name and class" application] then paste the text from the form in the text part of the post and fill it in with your own and your character's details. Do not fill the form as a comment in any other people's posts or as a comment in the character recruitment topic.
If you have another idea for a character, then you can fill it in on the original post as a comment. Please do not make a separate Post to the forum, otherwise things will get very confusing for me when I am searching to pick people to play with.
If you fail to apply correctly, your application will be ignored and your character gets automatically thrown into a volcano, so be careful.
I am looking for 3 to 4 players. If you have a friend you wanna play together with and wish to join in as a group, please include both of your character recruitment applications in one post together.
