Mage the Ascension

Have you ever questioned the nature of your reality? Most have. They’ll look around, begin to notice all the things they’ve dulled themselves to just to survive. They’ll hear a father beating his child through thin apartment walls, watch a politician lie with a smile on the television, drive past an addict selling herself on the streets -- and they’ll think, “is this all there is to it? Could things possibly have meant to be this way?”

In time, most will be lulled back into the routine. There are bills to pay, after all -- vices to chase, new things to buy, mouths to feed. Maybe they’ll need a soft reminder from a parent, or a teacher, or a boss. A little pep talk, a show of concern; whatever it takes to get you back in the rat race without distractions.

But there’s always that one who’s seen too much, and can’t be satisfied by anything but the truth. Maybe they’ll creep towards it, year after year. Maybe they’ll take off in a sprint and won't stop until they reach the finish line.

You don’t see them again. They disappear, like they’ve fallen off the face of the earth. One more thing you’ve learned not to question.

Or maybe you catch them at your old favorite spot, years down the line. You ask them what happened, and they’ve got nothing for you but a laugh and a smile.

‘Cause there’s only one way to know where they’ve been, and it means finding out just how deep the rabbit hole goes.

This is a player-driven, roleplay heavy Mage chronicle set in the immediate aftermath of the 2008 Stock Market Crash. New player characters will begin as unawakened mortals. This purpose of this chronicle is to explore the player characters and their relationships, flaws, and motivations. If you feel like you want the opportunity to let a character you've made really shine, then this is your sort of game.

The ruleset is a 5th edition hack for Mage.
