Dark Heresy: The Tyrant Star

Something terrible stirs upon the pleasure planet of Quaddis. Portents and ancient evils become evident as the penultimate 13th Hour approaches, from the bloody, labyrinthine Red Cages to the mansion of Gabriel Chase. The Imperial city of Sinophia Magna hides a lurking terror. A series of brutal murders have drawn the attention of the Inquisition, and a twisted pattern suggests a connection to the infamous Rogue Trader Haarlock. Terrible threats stir amongst the worlds visited by the mysterious Rogue Trader's bloodline. The so-called Tyrant Star, Komus, is described in a doom-laden vision which speaks in apocalyptic terms of a "darkness" that will engulf the worlds of man and ultimately devour human civilisation. The engulfing darkness will be preceded by signs and portents that will gradually transmute human minds and make them ready to embrace the darkness.

The affairs of Erasmus Haarlock are setting the stage for the fate of the Calixis Sector.

In January of 2008 Games Workshop's Black Industries published the first edition of the Dark Heresy core rulebook... three days before announcing the closure of Black Industries. Fantasy Flight Games got to pick up the game, and went on to publish the Haarlock Legacy campaign as well as Disciple of the Dark Gods, possibly the greatest Warhammer 40K Roleplaying supplement of all time.

This campaign will be using the rules of Dark Heresy 1st Edition and at its heart will be the Haarlock Legacy - but edited and enriched by all of the mysteries and potential of the Calixis Sector and the terrible secret of the Tyrant Star! You will play an acolyte of the Inquisition, trying to unravel those mysteries to save the sector, hundreds of planets, billions of lives and potentially the empire itself.

I am a great fan of Dan Abnett and his Eisenhorn, Ravenor and (incomplete) Bequin trilogies (as well his novel Titanicus), and that is the spirit I will be trying to capture. Part noir, part grimdark, part cosmic horror, part two-fisted pulp, all Warhammer 40K.

Do you want to be part of the Inquisition, fighting to save the Imperium of Man from the enemy beyond, the enemy without and the enemy within? Are you willing to face the horrors not just out there in the dark, but also those looking back at you when you stare into the mirror?

You don't need to know the system nor the world. As long as you want to plunge into a game of grand visions, terrible moral choices, bleak horror and a lot of tongue in cheek humor, everything else will be explained to you. And if you already are a fan of the grimdark future of Warhammer 40K or the obscure semi-skirmisher rules of Dark Heresy 1st Edition, you will be right at home. Either way, do not hesitate.
