About the game:
Welcome to Waterdeep! A fantastic treasure trove is yours for the taking in this adventure for the world's greatest roleplaying game. Famed explorer Volothamp Geddarm needs you to complete a simple quest. Thus begins a mad romp through the wards of Waterdeep as you uncover a villainous plot involving some of the city’s most influential figures. A grand urban caper awaits you. Pit your skill and bravado against villains the likes of which you’ve never faced before, and let the dragon hunt begin!
Dragon Heist is a great introduction for newcomers, as it provides a huge setting ripe for exploration and tons of activities that don't involve wanton violence. Waterdeep is a city of laws and the punishment for breaking those rules can be harsh. Not only will this break new players of any 'murder hobo' tendencies, it also encourages players to find inventive solutions to the problems they'll encounter. The strength of Waterdeep: Dragon Heist is its four variant storylines, each of which have wildly different themes and motivations.
About me:
Hey there! I'm Withengar, a new player and DM with a tremendous amount of passion for this game and its world and lore. Therefore, I am hoping to organize a game for up to six passionate (ideally new) players who want to try their luck with Dungeons and Dragons! In order to facilitate fun gameplay and interesting roleplay, you will be encouraged to invest yourself into your character, try new and interesting solutions to social interactions, puzzles, and combat, as well as to explore this massive world without having to worry about doing everything by the book. On my end, I will do everything I can to bring life into the setting and its characters, either through funny voices, running gags, or interesting roleplay hooks.
About the character creation rules:
• Characters will be built and managed using Roll20 Character Sheets. I will be available to help you in case you need assistance in that regard.
• Any content from official material for character creation will be allowed. Any UA or homebrew material might be allowed on a case-by-case basis.
• With that being said, players are strongly discouraged from metagaming. This is a campaign intended for new and returning players and the main focus will be on fun.
• Players will choose between using the standard array of stats, using point buy, or rolling for stats with special rules to make it more interesting.
• Players will be getting a free feat of their choice at character creation, minus a few exceptions.
• Players will also be getting a common common magical item of their choice, subject to DM approval.
• Each player will receive a unique item with hidden effects related to their backstory. This item will be their tie-in to the world of Waterdeep. These will be discussed privately with the DM and only revealed to other players at your own discretion.
• Levelling-up will be done on a milestone basis.
About general rules:
• Players are expected to respect other players, the DM, as well as themselves. This game will be a safe space for all players and all kind of racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic or otherwise prejudiced behavior will not be tolerated.
• Players are expected to inform the DM as far in advance as possible if they are unable to make it to a session so that the rest of the group can arrange something in their absence.
• Games will be played on Roll20 and a dedicated Discord server will be made for game to be used for voice chat. The DM will be available on Discord as often as possible.
• Session 0 will be held in advance of the start of the game to discuss points related to the game as well as to flesh out the characters in more depth.
Thanks for reading and I hope to see you in Waterdeep! :)
