Join a campaign with one of Roll20’s best roleplay-centric DMs on the platform. Place your adventure into the hands of a storyteller that is just as invested in your journey as you are!
Hail and well met I’m Zag! Nerd, critter and lover of all things roleplay, I've been a professional DM for games here on R20 for over 4 years now and have amassed over 9 thousand hours of experience! In my games I always encourage everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves at my tables, as I try to curate an environment that is centered around the shared enjoyment of a good game played. With the experiences I provide in my games you're able to truly delve into your character on entirely new levels, with player's and a community that are able to match your passion for storytelling and show up to each session as equally excited about the next session as you are. New players are more than welcome to come along for the adventure, I create one of the best new-player experiences for every player that joins my games.
My first introduction into D&D was a particular show I'm sure you've heard of called Critical Role. That show was the start of my journey as a DM years ago and has served as the basis for the quality of storytelling I strive for. The baseline experience you'll receive in my games are intimate, deep and rich stories with detailed plots, interweaving arcs and campaign defining moments you'll never forget. Of course, all of this coupled with fully voice acted npc's and the full range of emotions that come along with a breathing world that interacts and reacts to you on a level and scale you've never experienced before.
I'm a heavy role-play type of DM as my main goal is at the end of the day to tell a compelling and overall great story, mechanics sometimes taking a hefty backseat when in favor of achieving a better narrative. So if you're looking to get your roleplay on with other player's just as passionate about the craft as you are, you've come to the right place! The games I run are typically character driven and focus is always shone on the player's and how their decisions impact the characters and world around them as they carve out their adventure.
Aesaris is a homebrew fantasy world created and written by me! Originally created to facilitate the adventures of my many games, I quickly became enamored with a new idea. What if I created a fantasy world that could not only host the adventures of my beloved players, but what if this world was shared between them. As in the events of one campaign can affect another on a worldly scale? What if in these separate campaigns they're all tackling world-changing events at once?
You get instances where one campaign is at the center of an ancient draconic event that sees the once thought-to-be extinct beings back into the world, which then means another campaign is a part of and a defender against a dragon attack on their city weeks later. A party seeks to plot revenge against a feylord of the dark-fey realm with a lesser fey they met along their journey. This culminates into a new feylord being born in the dark fey realm, setting off the waking of the Old Gods of the Umbrarealm. Wherein two campaigns purely set in the Umbrarealm now have to deal with this world changing event, while those who caused it escape back to the Prime Plane to live out their lives. Unknowing of just how important that event was, at least not until they return months later which saw them be the reapings they sowed.
So to say that it's been a unique and wonderful experience would be an understatement, the amount of interconnected events that occur and transpire really give the world an alive feeling. The impact of decision-making in my campaigns can not only be felt by the player, but by other entire campaigns which have their stories taking place within this world at the same time.
I've also created several new races, over 40+ subclasses and 100+ spells specifically for the world as well and 25+ new feats to really spice up the content of my games to further set them apart.
The players that have come to make up the bulk of my active community are some of the most talented individuals, from writers to artists (and there's a lot of us) that bring their own flavor to their characters and make the world feel even more alive. We are welcoming to all peoples that have a passion for D&D in our 18+ | LGBTQ+ space 🏳️🌈.
You reply to the flagged post down below and fill out some of the questions! Now keep in mind this is an actual play posting, as I do believe the best way to enjoy all of this is to be a part of it yourself as an active participant. Unless you are particularly keen on getting inspired, talking to fellow artists or are just seeing what's going on.
I run paid games on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday!
More details about the game given to those interested!
I run various types of campaigns, from my own homebrew campaigns to adventure modules and even games set in the world of Exandria! The two main types of campaigns I run are what I call full length campaigns, which are games run until their narrative completion meaning from level 1 - ?? it could be level 15 when your narrative ends, 17, 18 or 20. The story's duration is as long as it makes sense to be, although I tend to always have epilogue arcs set up to allow a campaign to reach the dream of 20th level.
The other type of game I run is called Arc-Campaigns! These are the type of games I highly recommend to any newcomer to my games and are as the name suggests narrative Arcs that are expertly laid out and executed for your enjoyment. These games usually last around 4-6 sessions and can span multiple episodes with the same characters. The most recent example of this being a very fun and community favorite game with the party The Witchblades. They've done 2 arc campaigns, one taking 4 sessions to complete and the second taking 5 sessions. This very unique game was actually able to merge into a campaign to form a mega session! which is still ongoing as of writing this. This being a special event where all players of The Witchblades met up with the party The Rime Rose and are now tackling a big bad together.
I first and foremost accept applicants based on quality, and compatibility over simply who applies first. I don’t look for just any player, I look for the best player I feel will fit with the party in terms of personality and players that synergize with my DM style. This means that just because you apply first, or may see another apply first, doesn’t mean you lose your chance of getting into the game. In my experience the best and longest campaigns come from finding all the right people and bringing them together.
If all of this interests, you and my games sound like the perfect fit. Perhaps you find yourself being a curious and prospecting onlooker, send me a PM and I will personally invite you to spectate a session live as it happens. Where you get to see the magic happen for yourself.
I am now going to explain the expectations of a player that sits down to play at my table. I’m all about unhindered fun as long as it doesn’t impede on the way someone else enjoys theirs. In my game’s your character is truly an individual and can decide what they want and don’t want to do. I was never fond of the idea of binding everyone to a group and stripping away their individual character’s wants and needs and pushing the responsibilities of the decision making onto one party member. To me, when you sit down to play the character you created, with your time, imagination and energy, they are always individual first. There is no “party leader” everyone’s a leader, and everyone contributes to the decisions made.
At the end of the day I want everyone to get along together and have fun playing a game we all commonly love, known as D&D. All the while being respectful towards each other for their time, energy and creativity that they’ve contributed into the game.
I strive for the players at my table to really embody their character and wear their skin as if it’s their own but there comes a point where the line is drawn. I support character RP, and player character based choices. Where the line is drawn, is when it disrupts the momentum of the game, or the player acts in their own self interest (breaking character). Using their character to do things that they really want to do vs. what their character would/should do. I support the idea of a character being an individual that is part of a group or team. If it is disruptive or toxic in nature, that is strictly not allowed. We’re here to have fun together, not ruin someone else's experience they’ve paid for. Fun at the expense of another is not fun.
