Sundered Realms: Palace of the Silver Princess

Moments ago you were enjoying the celebration of a royal wedding, then the the world was nothing but a deep red glare that lasted an eternity. WHen the red gloom passed things had changed.

The sky is a glaring crimson dome trapping the castle. Where townsfolk walked and played before there are only statues, frozen in motion. The air is still, musty. Nearby you see one of the statues slump and start, another festival-goer coming to life, then another, and another. You share a look of fear, confusion until the darkened palace draws your eyes. You see figures moving in the high palace watchtower, dim light trickling from windows above.
With no other direction to go you gather what tools and equipment you can from the nearby buildings and set out to enter the ruined palace, questions tumbling in your mind like dice in a cup.

GAME STYLE
Explore the wracked palace filled now with creatures drawn by the evil magics binding the palace, avoid deadly traps and discover magical items while you unravel the mystery. Come to know the others who have also awoken from the red sleep, unlikely companions in an impossible situation. Survive, navigate the denizens of the darkened palace, and seek your freedom from the spell by finding a way to break it!

Combat will be deadly as the PCs are starting at 0. Encounters will not be balanced, forcing the players to be cautious and selective about entering combat and exploring the castle as they may easily run into foes they cannot defeat…although there are plenty of equal challenges for the untested characters! Tactical thinking will be important, and the GM will provide help with understanding the rules, making characters, navigating combat, and navigating the adventure site.
Starting at 0 is a great way to get to know the game mechanics, and slowly grow your character through the first few sessions, playing an origin story and building a mutual experience between PCs! If it sounds daunting do not worry, I will be there to make sure newer players feel competent and engaged!

CHARACTER GENERATION
Players will be starting at lvl 0 (details provided during creation), using standard array, using most available races (some abilities may be limited), and will start will very little equipment. Players will be townsfolk of the nearby castle somehow released from the evil magics which hold the castle in stasis. Think handmaidens, cooks, guards-in-training, blacksmiths, herbalists, beggars, dignitaries, entertainers, merchants, diplomats, and other travelers attending the wedding.

STARTING EQUIPMENT
Each character has a dagger, clothing, 4 gp, background items, and a healer's draught (2 uses, heals 1d6 hp).
Additional Items (choose one)
1) Additional dagger, 50' rope, quarterstaff, 3 torches, leather armor, healer's kit
2) hand weapon (1d6), longbow, hammer and 6 pitons, leather armor, thieves tools
3) rapier/longsword, hand axe, lantern, 3 vials of oil, tinder kit, leather armor
