Curse of Strahd!!

We are currently 2 sessions in, a player had dropped and we need a 4th. I have a recording of session 1 and am happy to help catch you up!

I will message you a discord invite if you are accepted!

We will be playing Curse of Strahd!

Pitch: Enter into the Valley of Barovia. Ruled over by the Lord of the Realm, Strahd. While he is dangerous... many other things are.

This is a game with a previous group of 3 players, we are seeking a 4th to round out the party. That being said - don't be afraid to join! We've just completed a campaign and had a great time. Now it's on to the next adventure!

Where do we start?
You are part of a mercenary adventuring party that a prospector recently hired to camp out inside a house, as he fears something wicked inside.

We will start at level 3.

FAQ

How long does the average session last?
On average I try to keep my sessions to 3-4 hours maximum.

What kind of game is this going to be?
I love to focus on roleplay first and foremost. My split is usually around 60% roleplay and problem solving and 40% combat. There will be an overarching story but how it plays out is ultimately up to the players! Even random encounters will have things to discover.

I like creative solutions to problems and actively encourage people to use all the tools at their disposal and their environment to it's full effect. Yes, you can cut that rope bridge to avoid an encounter. Yes, you can distract the worg with an animal call. And yes, you can create an elaborately programed illusion to fool a crowd of people into believing your lie. But are you prepared to deal with the consequences?

Is experience with the system/setting required?
Not at all.

What's the long-term plan for the campaign?
It could go further, but that module is set up to Level 10. Beyond that, who knows!

Can I play a (race), (class) with (colorful backstory) ?
Of course! So long as it's official or pre-approved content, it's fair game to try! Playing an exotic or extremely rare and unlikely character (race/class/etc.) requires a good character concept that justifies them being there, however, to help establish them beyond who they are mechanically. I am all in favor of adjusting or homebrewing content for the sake of flavor.

Does my backstory matter?
Yes, to an extent. CoS is set up where once you enter Barovia, the realm of Strahd, you are cut off from where you came from. Therefore, it's unlikely to have much tied into your previous backstory. I would recommend going with more of a character concept and fleshing them out as the game goes along.

What are the character creation rules?
We will be using a standard array.

We'll be using Discord for voice communication, session music and communication outside the game. I hope to meet you all soon :)
Below is the rest of the world's information and character suggestions/homebrew rules:

I am planning to use Owlbear Rodeo as our VTT. It is very simple to use and is a lighter program than Roll20.

Your character
Your character will start at the 1st level You may choose any race class combo from http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/

I am also allowing character options from the Ravenloft setting, which I can send you once you join the Discord channel.

The only restriction will be Artificers at this point. While I do like the class, it does not fit into the flavor of this campaign module at all.

Humans, dwarfs, elves, halflings, etc. are normal. More unique races are fine but know that you will be regarded as strange by most people.
