Hi there! Thanks for looking at this listing! So, before we go any further I'd like for you to ask yourself "What do I most want from a game?" What aspect is it that you enjoy?
Is it; Roleplay? Challenging combat? Long-running stories? Player agency? Funny voices? A one of a kind story that you can look forward to weekly?
If it is one of those, I'd like to run a game for you. I'd like to have a weekly experience together that is as worthwhile, as viewing a movie (a good movie. Yes your favorite movie). Though bring your own snacks. I promise you a custom story that will best suit your group as a whole. Suiting your characters, and their interests in a way to hopefully make you want to play more.
Ideally sessions would run 3-6 hours. If a game is ended before 3 hours by me, it would be entirely free.
The Snakewood
An adventure taking place in the forgotten realms. A well storied universe with thousands of years of recorded history. A land where the gods vie for mortal prayer, drawing power from it. A world where magic is known, wizards are found in most every city, and grand temples are capable of raising the dead of those who can pay a premium price.
In this magical world ogre attacks are not unheard of. Beasts known for their great hunger, and rather dim wit. However the town of Berdusk has been assaulted by ogres hailing hundreds of miles south, from the snakewood. A territory that historically not been home to them. And more horrifically these giants seem to bear skin that mundane weapons do not pierce... perhaps infected with lycanthropy. Creatures that are known to infest the snakewood.
Thus the lord of Berdusk has sent out a call for mercenaries. Those with magical might, or great force. Wanting the ogre issue resolved through any means necessary. If that involves slaughtering the werewolves, and other were-creatures that could be infecting them. If that involves parlaying with the creatures, whether it involves dark magical means, anything to save the common folk, the fields, and traders from the appetite of this horde of ogres.
$20 is a lot. However it takes a LOT of time to make games. four hours to produce an hour of content. If we have four players, and I've spent 10 hours prepping and running a session, I'm making $8 per hour.
Okay, but why $20? There are DMs who do it for free, and several you can get for $10 or even $15 a session. Why should you pay me twice what you could someone else? Because I have been DMing for more than the 10,000 hours some say you need to master a skill. I am not perfect, but I am proud of the material I produce for my groups. I've never had a player come to me and say "I'm just not enjoying the game.". I have a library of resources that is ever expanding to make better, and better games.
As a DM I love it when players roleplay, I love giving you fights that will make you think about the combat, and I love it when people message me after a game saying that they enjoyed it because it makes me feel good.
As a DM I will try to give you situations that need to be figured out, the intended answer might just be 'hit it really hard' or it could require you to take a five session side-quest to feed a cat abberation. However players are incredibly clever, and will come up such wonderful work arounds that you can resolve things in very different ways than I intended. The story will grow to reflect that in small, or major ways!
As a DM when it comes to the aspects with which I am proudest, it is my characters. Every major character, and many minor ones will have fleshed out motivations, backstories, ideals, and desires for the world of the game, just as you the players do. It allows for interesting interactions where you may love a character one moment, and then find out that something they are doing is to such an antithesis of your desires you completely change your opinion.
As a DM my inspirations are Warhammer 40k, and most of the book series contained within. Mythology, predominately norse and greeco-roman, but also an addition of christian and jewish demonology. I also have to admit I am inspired by the anime and manga of the mid two-thousands as they were formative years, and really helped me understand how to quickly establish unique aspects of different worlds, and that reusing an idea isn't bad as long as you always put a new twist on it.
When it comes to killing off PCs there is nothing that hurts me to have happen more. But this is a story with stakes, and sometimes a character will come to their end. We'll work out way through it together, either reviving, or crafting someone new to explore with the party.
For this characters will be starting at level 3 with 150gp to buy mundane items, and one mundane item they have can be a magic item of uncommon rarity instead. You will be mercenaries, citizens of the town of berdusk, or just someone who is out looking to help the world.
Characters get 2 free feats to start with, and our means of ability scores are currently undecided.
Why voice only? - I personally suffer from dysphoria and prefer not to use cam. Players are more than welcome to.
LGBTQIA+ Friendly? - Yeah, I have no issue with any members of the alphabet army.
First session free? - Yeah, you can't really sample TTRPG experiences, so you need to get a free run. So I give a free session 0 where we discuss everything and go over what we're doing, and a free session 0.5 where it's an actual fully planned out session.
Is the time flexible? - No.
Wanna ask something else? - Ask them in the post below!
How will we communicate? - Through discord, it's free to download and use.
How far along is the game? - We have not yet started
What is everyone playing? - A way of mercy monk, a genie warlock, assassin rogue, rune knight fighter, and unknown.
