On the isolated southern border of Brevoy, Restov was the only settlement to resist the barbarian horde led by Choral the Conqueror and his two dragons. The foreign invader united the two nations of Issia and Rostland under his dragon banner - the royal crest of House Rogarvia - and granted fiefdoms to those noble households that submitted to him. King Choral's bloodline would rule Brevoy for 200 years.
The fortified City of Restov was the stage for the last stand that held back Choral's army. It is here that the Aldori Swordlords sacrificed almost all to keep their freedom. Peace was only assured when Choral offered Restov autonomy within his new nation of Brevoy and throughout the years, Restov has solidified its independent and entrepreneurial spirit.
And with news that a mysterious and sudden disaster had ended the Choral line, descendants of Old Restovian nobility have seen opportunity to reclaim their lost lands.
For those familiar with pathfinder's Kingmaker Adventure path, I would like to point out that this campaign will likely not follow the story within the modules. This sandbox campaign will begin in South Rostland within the region close to and including the free city of Restov. The party, depending on who the characters may be and where their loyalties may eventually lie, could respond to the political events within Brevoy completely differently.
The immense wilderness to the south of Restov, known as the stolen lands could be explored and settled, and characters might want to begin their very own kingdom among the strange fey inhabitants that exist there.
The characters may want to be more involved in the internal politics of the nation of Brevoy, where rumors of civil war between the remaining noble houses have reached Restovian ears. Perhaps there is an opportunity for everyone to seize control of the nation.
Or perhaps the party wants to make their mark as seasoned adventurers, exploring the wilds of Iobaria where huge and feral beasts have prevented past civilizations to continue their bleak existence. Or even finding passage to Numeria, where the primitive Kellid Tribes are ruled by a upper caste of Arcanists known as the Technic league. The River Kingdoms to the south, where many Aldori Swordlords fled to claim new lands is a realm of opportunity - where one only needs to be able to defend that which they have claimed for themselves. As such, it is a land full of brigand anarchy.
And of course, this game will be played using the 5th edition d&d ruleset. House-rules will be in effect.
